Pics of Benjamin on Our Hike

Benjamin (4 1/2 months old) and I went on a little hike last week, up to some beautiful waterfalls around here. It was only a little more than 4 miles round trip, but kind of steep in places, and he did great!

Thanks everyone. Yeah, he had a great time. This is one of my favorite hikes around here (Seattle area). It's up Highway 2, towards Stevens Pass in the Cascade Mountains. It's great because it's not too long but has a big payoff, as opposed to some hikes where you have to walk 7 or 8 miles for the good parts.

It is my "tradition" to stop at a little fast food place, the Alpen Cafe, on the way out. It's got a nice lawn with beautifully maintained flower beds, fake windmills, and picnic tables, which is kind of cool. Other than fresh fruit shakes they have the usual fast food fare, and I don't even eat that way any more, but it's tradition! I got a grilled chicken sandwich, and Benjamin got a small hamburger, without the bun or toppings, and broken up into little pieces. I'm sure he thought it was the perfect ending to a really fun day! And yes, the both of us conked out for quite a while afterwards!

That sounded like a great day. I don't think Timmy could walk four miles, he's such a wimp. I tried to walk to the ice cream store with the kids the other night, maybe 2 miles round trip, and Timmy kept stopping to sit down.
Maybe if Timmy had the scenery Benjamin and you had he might have been more cooperative. Timmy loves hamburgers too!

Oh, I LOVE that area. I spent a week there last fall when I was in Seattle to speak. Didn't get to the Cascades, though I would have loved to. But I saw gorgeous waterfalls on Rainier, and then also on the Olympic Peninsula. In fact, your photo reminded me of the ones there. It's an area I'd really like to go back to!!!

One thing to keep in mind is that pavement is MUCH harder on their feet than natural surfaces. Kodi sometimes looks like he's had enough on pavement walks (he doesn't quit, but he definitely has less spring in his step) but he can go for HOURS on natural surfaces. And on trails, I'm sure he covers more than twice the distance we do with all his "side trips" when he's off leash!
