OMG - how to stop a puppy mill?

Hi everyone,

I've been absent for a long time. Sorry... sometimes life just gets in the way! Now I need your help and advice.

For those two don't know and/or remember me, I have two rescue Havs. One is Tango, who was my first Hav. She's probably the most awesome dog *ever* although I may be a bit biased.

Tango is getting old. I'm not actually sure just how old she is, but she's really showing signs of aging. For those who know what I'm talking about, she has been 'getting older' for about 3-4 years now. But recently, within the past few months, the 'aging clock' has sped up, and the speed at which she is slowing down is much greater. I hope that made sense.

Anyway, I thought I would start looking around for breeders now, because I'm absolutely certain I'll want another Hav when Tango is no longer with me. Which leads me to my question.

I found a website (that I don't want to display, because the last thing I want to do is drive more traffic to them) that is OBVIOUSLY a puppy mill. They have tons of verbiage about their 'network of breeders' and their 'stringent screening process' yadda yadda. But they literally have over 100 'purebred Havanese' puppies CURRENTLY available for sale!!!

Does anybody have experience with something like this? Is there anything I can do? It seriously made me sick to me stomach to see this website. It actually looks well thought-out and pretty professional. I have NO doubt that MANY people have (and will) buy puppies from these people, because unless you know better, it looks pretty legit. Certifications, breeder associations, all sorts of things to add credibility.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Please?

Thanks everyone.

Hi, and welcome back! If you. Are talking about the group of sites I think you are, you can put in just about any city, and "Havanese breeders" in aweb search and come up with the EXACT SAME site, just with a different city name. As best I can tell they are puppy mill brokers. It's a shame, but right now, I think all we can do is keep trying to educate people to the bestof ourability. It's a. Shame thoug, because as you said, to the unwary, they look very professional.

Sounds like one of the broker sites. They advertise puppies all sorts of different ways, from states to breeds. If only there was something to be done to put puppy mills out of business. As long as people keep buying them, I don't think there is any end to them.

That makes me so sad. And kind of sick to my stomach. Ugh. Karen, it probably is the same thing you've seen. How terrible. I just wish there was something we could do. OK, thanks for the replies.
