Babysitting Other Dogs

Well, Sissy is not a happy camper this week. My daughter has went on a cruise with her husband and I am keeping her heathens (oops I mean angels) this week. They are beagles (one year old) they are really very cute and sweet but wild as they can be - my daughter does not do training or discipline. I told her if this was any representation of her parenting skills we are in trouble.

I am keeping them mostly outside but inside the laundry room at night (I have a large laundry room). I have had them two days and I have them sitting, not jumping, laying - they are really pretty easy to train. BUT Sissy likes one of the beagles (Claire) but growls at the other one (Ginger) everytime she gets around her. Claire goes about her business and leaves Sissy alone but Ginger wants to play and is constantly charging Sissy and when Sissy growls at her - Ginger lays on her back very submissive like please love me. Even if Ginger comes to the window to look in - Sissy growls.

I have went out in the yard with all of them gave them all treats to make it a fun time. Sissy just doesn't want Ginger around her at all.

Any suggestions so they might be friends.

Marie

I would growl too if someone way bigger than me kept charging me. It doesn't sound like it is Sissy's problem but rather she is communicating a warning to knock it off. No advice for you on them. Beagles are pretty high energy dogs that need lots of walks. Maybe if you exhaust them and then bring them around her it would be better!

I think you just have to let them work it out. But Sissy does look gorgeous and quite in charge!!!

Just give them time to work everything out. Sissy is used to being the only child and the center of your universe, so I am sure she is feeling a bit unhappy. All three of my dogs love beagles.By the way, did I mention that Sissy is absolutely beautiful.

Wow - Sissy is gorgeous!! I would say you just have to let them work it out. Sissy must feel that Ginger wants to be the alpha, and he is just letting her know that isnt going to fly in her household!! As long as they are not hurting each other, I would let them work it out.
Now if you can get your daughter to continue with the training when she returns - that would be great!!

Oh, gosh Marie, you have your hands full with that one! lol

Well, Gucci got like that recently with a dog that she has played well in the past, and I wasn't sure why? I thought maybe she was just being protective of her toys and food (the other dog was trying to play with her things, and Gucci was NOT having it) I was kind of stumped on that one, too. She either LIKES another dog a whole lot and wants to play OR she hates them and growls! There is no inbetween with her, black or white.

I've noticed she does well with certain breeds, Havanese, Maltese, Brittney Spaniels, but heaven forbid a Yorkie or MinPin comes around.

I guess I would let Sissy establish the "second in charge alpha" on her turf and watch closely to make sure there is no aggresion or challenging. I guess dogs build a heirarchy naturally. Maybe Sissy is just mad that she *charged* her and/or challenged her.

I hope you get the beagles behaving properly I know several people that do not train their dogs, and they are BRATS. You must be a saint, because I probably would've said no! lol

Oh, and Sissy is precious in that picture.

hugs,
Kara

From the picture with the beagle on his back, looks to me he knows Sissy is the Queen.

Well, that's right Sissy is def. queen.

I have a pen (6x9 ft.) that I put them in so she can go out and have a little bit of peace to go potty. When she goes out - she doesn't even look at them - strolls around the yard and when she finished goes back to the door to go in... it is hilarious!

When we got up yesterday - my husband went to the laundry room to let them out and he said something about Claire and Ginger - Sissy jerked her head like you have got to be kidding me, they are still here...we laughed so hard.

If Ginger would just go about her business and leave Sissy alone - Sissy would be ok with that. Sissy likes Claire.

I hope my daughter keeps up the training. She wants to have a baby next year - so she better. These dogs run all over her house - jump on the furniture - jump off the back of the furniture, etc. They are really babies - she treats them like babies - they are really sweet.

Thanks for the comments about Sissy - of course we think she is beautiful..
she's our baby....lololol
