No, we're heading to NC and the Smokey Mountains for two weeks! Guess who we;re visiting in NC? (and NO we are NOT bringing home a puppy!!!)

I used to show horses there all the time, but I don't USUALLY do trials at the Big E, because it's a full 2 hours from here, so would mean an overnight in a hotel (not the end of the world) and the Big-E is a tough venue for obedience and rally because it's noisy, bad footing, etc. But if I knew I could meet up with someone and have some fun, I might be tempted another time!

A lot of the N.E. Havanese Club people usually show there, though, (they often have a club meeting there too, though I don't think they have one planned this time) so it's a good opportunity to meet some of them. It's a really nice group of people!

I can't h-e-a-r y-o-u! Besides, I think the puppies are all gone at the moment!

BTW, there's no one at the door at Big-E (or any other show I've been to!) checking to see if you are entered. If your dogs are well behaved and look like purebreds, no one will question you.

OTOH, you might enjoy watching more WITHOUT your pups in tow. There will be lots of booths where you can buy cool stuff (check out Hogan Leather for THE BEST bridle leather collars and leashes) and you can sit or stand closer to the ring if you don't have a dog with you.

The other reason I don't like the big conformation dog shows is that a lot of conformation dogs aren't very mannerly. I end up carrying Kodi around a lot so that crated dogs aren't leaping and barking at him. We get used to Havanese, who are usually pretty mild mannered, (and mostly seem to like each other, even if they've never met!) but there are LOTS of breeds that are pretty territorial about their crates.

You haven't seen Bumi on a leash. You would think I put a fire cracker under his collar and he is trying to get it off before it blows. He drags his body all over the floor, no matter where he is. When I putt the leash up so he can't drag his uppper body, he bends his legs and walks closer to the ground. Is embarrasing and soooooooooo frustraring. The minute the leash is off, he is back to his normal self! But I would never risk a place like that with Bumi off leash. He is good, but any dog would get spooked.
Toby, he can care less if I put a leash or a saddle on him (as long as is not heavy). He is a happy camper!

I'll leave them home, I want to be able to walk around and with the dogs, I always end up with both leashes and left behind!

I'll check out the collars! thanks!

Oh! I forgot that the fait starts this weekend. I thiught Zuri was talking about one of the many dog shos that are held on the grounds. I don't know if there is a dog show held in conjunction with the fair or not. I know there is a horse show, but not sure about dogs!

We went on Saturday. Got there at about 10:30 AM and left by 8:00 PM. Had a blast!!!
There was no dog show but there certainly were horses! Those Budwieser Horses are a BEAUTY!!!!! My God, they are so tall and muscular, is impressive!
The food was fantastic, the rides great and there were so many things to do!
