TOMORROW is the big day!! for Mossimo!

It is finally here!.. We leave tomorrow at 7am to go get our little furbaby! I cannot wait!... and feel like it has been a forrreverer wait!.
We just set up his little Xpen in our kitchen last night, packed his bag with some treats, blankets and toys for the ride home and moved his crate into our bedroom.
This morning, was our LAST morning of freedom!. Well I guess tomorrow really is but then its wake up to feed the little boy breakfast and walkie time and maybe snugglies in the bed once he is potty trained!..

We had a fun time taking some of his toys out for him that he can use when he gets home tomorrow! I hope he wants to play!

Any suggestions for what people have done that have their pup in the car for a long ride home? Crate? Do you hold them? Where and how do they go peeps?

Ahhh... so much excitment!

We had Momo in the travel crate that the breeder gave us. I sat next to her in the back seat so she wouldn't be as scared. She also told us not to take her out to go potty because she didn't know us, she might bolt and we wouldn't be able to get her to come to us. She said that everything could be cleaned after we got home. But, it was also only a four hour drive for us. I don't know about longer rides.

Donnie, Momo and Ume's mom and loving it!

Whichever you choose, crate or holding him, be prepared for him thowing up. Not all do, but when we picked up Kallie she threw up 4 times in our 1 1/2 hr drive home. Poor little thing! So I'd recommend bringing several towels to use under him. That way they can be changed out if necessary. We held her on the way home, thinking that she may feel more secure in loving arms.

Potty wasn't an issue for us. Only 1 1/2 hr drive. And she pottied right before we hit the road.

I'm so excited for you! It's not been that long ago for me (June 23rd) so it's still fresh in my mind. I knew I needed to get lots of sleep the night before, but I was awake every hour looking at the clock. DH & I finally gave up and got up @ 4:00 AM. Such an exciting day. I had every intention of keeping a daily journal of Kallie's 1st few months, but that never happened! Between taking care of her & posting/reading this forum I completely forgot about the journal!! But I'll probably pull up my old posts & print them out. Some were of complete joy, some were writting with tears of frustration running down my face. But wouldn't give her up for a million dollars!

My trainer friend (who came with me to get Kodi) suggested just letting him sleep in his carrier in the car, since he seemed calm and quiet in there. (They are also safer in a carrier!!!) I suppose if he'd seemed upset in the carrier, we might have tried to see if he was happier in our arms, but it wasn't an issue. Our breeder had already gotten him used to the carrier before we took him home. (he had been sleeping in it at night, next to his siblings)

We had a LONG trip home, and we did take him out several times, once to clean up vomit on the first 2 hour car ride, and once in each airport to pee. (we set him on his pad to see if he wanted to pee when we take him out to clean up the vomit, but he didn't go at that point) We had a leash and harness for him, but honestly, we didn't need it AT ALL in the beginning. He was a snuggle pup and wanted nothing but to be with us from day one.

We didn't ever put him down on the ground or floor, though, until we got home. Only on the giant pee pad (with the litter he was used to folded into it) that the breeder provided for us. We had a LONG trip... 2 hours in the rental car, followed by the airport/plane flight/airport (probably 4 hours total) and then another hour plus car ride home. So potty provisions were a must.

Yippie!! So excited for you!!

We drove 10 hrs. one way to meet Tillie and bring her home... I held her on my lap (with a pillow on my lap to make her more comfy) She shook and trembled for the first 2 hrs, then she settled down and slept! At one point even going belly up, paws in the air to sleep! So precious!!!
I was/am VERYYYYY thankful that Tillie has never thrown up in the car!! But, yes, bring LOTS of towels just in case... if she pukes, just take the towel out from under her, put it in a garbage bag (to wash later) and put a fresh towel under her.
As for potty time, We stopped a few times, but she actually only ended up peeing once. To this day she has an AMAZING bladder that I am thankful for daily! lol
I was a bad puppy mama and actually searched for grass areas that were tucked away, looked like no one used them or was around and had her go potty there. We got lucky and she was already 14 weeks old and had had 2 rounds of shots though...

According to what I've read, something like 88% of puppies have full immunity after their second set of shots anyway, (assuming the first isn't given before 8 weeks) so particularly considering her age, she was probably already pretty well protected!
