What is very sad is many puppy mills breed their bitches at least 4 times a year, some take the puppies and put them with another breeder, so they can get them ready quicker to do it again. Often they use hormones to start a heat. The breeders often become sterile and are considered useless, often those are then destroyed. Sometimes puppy mills take their surplus useless breeders to a pound or shelter, not as an act of kindness but because they have been sited in the past for illegal disposal of animals. The breeders that are lucky enough to escape the puppy mill life are at high risk of breast cancer among other things.

There are now many of these puppy mill type places selling on the internet.

Horrible. My daughter has numerous friends whose parents bought their dog from Petsmart. So Sad.

The fate of the breeding parents is horrible, but add to that the puppies who wind up in pet stores and purchased by anyone who can plunck down a credit card. These impulse purchases often wind up in shelters or put out as strays when the "owners" don't understand that their cute fluffy puppy now does doggy like things....and chews the couch pillows, pees on the floor, oh....and God forbid- barks!

I was looking at my sweet Misty (started off as Nikita) the other day and it occurred to me that she was probably bought as cute fluffy pet store puppy only about 9 months ago for probably 1000+ dollars. Now, a very short while later, she is a year old and was already surrendered twice to the shelter. Sad state of affairs in this country.

It is really sad all puppies are cute, but also the health and temperment of the breeding pair is very important, there is so much to breeding, it's should never be about bringing cute puppies into the world. Too many see breeding as a cheap way to make money...a good breeder does not make ton's of money, sadly a bad one (including back yard breeders) makes a very tidy profit, often at the cost of the pups....and sometimes heartbreak to the unsuspecting pet owner.

I tried to post that chart on FB but couldn't get it up. Does anyone else know how? It needs as much publicity as possible because there are so many out there who just don't know the facts.

It IS already going around on FB, because that's where I saw it. I think you just do it as an attachment to your FB post. That's how I usually do pictures.

I tried to copy and paste it wouldn't work. Not sure how to do an attachment since I don't have it as a document. Does anyone know how?
