Dog saved from home fire

I do not know these people, but saw the story on local evening news tonight. Seeing her topknot and watching her run across the lawn, made me realize this is a Havanese.

The Story Behind The Picture:

"I could see the smoke when I was on the freeway. Just got here and stood across the street and watched it," said Jeff Jenkins.

As Jeff Jenkins and his partner Dave Vander Ecken watched their home go up in flames, there was only one thing on their mind.

"I thought it was over for her, and that's all I could think of was her," said Vander Ecken.

"Everybody was saying, 'Where is the dog? Where is Jetta," said Jenkins.

The door to a bedroom was closed and their beloved dog Jeda was trapped inside.
"The firemen said that when they opened the door, they could feel her around their feet and then she just took off. She found her way to the back door and just ran right out," said Jenkins.

hi Kay, welcome back . What a great story. I saw your name on the board, and thought I would lure you out lol. Little did I know you'd be posting a new thread. And a heartbreaking one at that. We need some more pics.

Hi Dave

I think Hav owners are insatiable when it comes to pics. lol

This was a great story and the little dog was so cute running back and forth in the followup story.

Maggie is curled up in a ball fast asleep right now after having been out in the blustery wind a little while ago. She so smart not wanting to spend any more time than she has to out there today.

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods, Dave.

still six feet above the ground rather than below it, so that's good. When you get a chance though, we need our fix. Any updates on this story let us know.

What a sweet picture! I'm sure they were frantic.

That's a big fear of mine, I'm glad it ended happily

This is my biggest fear too. I have the decals on both my front and sliding glass doors.

I hope if this ever happened my guys would head outside. They hate the sound of the smoke alarm and always go out the dog door when it goes off. i tend to set them off when I am cooking!!! Even if it's freezing out, they will stay outside until the smoke alarm stops....Hopefully, they would still follow the fire drill if it were the real deal!!

I love a story with a happy ending. Whenever I leave the troops I pray that no harm will come to them till I get home.
