Shy guy coming around
I wanted to share how Louis is blooming with his personality. When I got him about 8 months ago, he was very shy and scared of people - mostly men. I guess it just took him some time to settle in.
Here are some instances that has surprised me:
a) My FIL came to visit one weekend. Louis went right up to him, stood on his hind legs against my FIL's legs as my FIL petted and scratched Louis on his body, head, under the chin, everywhere (usually Louis would not approach, or he would cautiously and duck away if someone tried to pet him). When my FIL stopped petting and moved away, Louis followed him and stood on his hind legs again for attention.
b) My FIL was sitting on the couch looking at his laptop. Louis came over, JUMPED UP on the couch right next to my FIL. My FIL petted him, and then Louis sat next to him. My jaw dropped! Louis refused to share the couch with my husband for a while when he was first with us.
c) We had a bunch of people over for a pumpkin carving party. Louis was fine with everyone. We went outside to look at the lit up pumpkins, it was a group of people and dark. I turned around, and saw my friend's 12 year old daughter just holding Louis. My jaw dropped again! He doesn't like kids!
d) We stayed at a hotel this weekend. Louis snuck out of the hotel room like a ninja. We LOST HIM!! I tried to stay calm, but my husband was freaking out. We looked on our floor and outside. We were going to do a more thorough search outside and I went to talk to the front desk. We were scared because there is a busy freeway right by the hotel. My husband passed some stairs and there was Louis sitting on top of them. He called for him, Louis came over, and my husband picked up him. Everything was fine. Louis had an adventure on the second floor of the hotel. He usually doesn't just run off like that, but I guess he thought he was at home! Crazy dog!
I am seeing Louis gain more confidence and it is refreshing! Well, except him running off.
