Say "hello" to my new havanese!

I have been a part of the havanese forum for a little while now but I just got my havanese yesterday. I decided to go with a retired show dog in Ohio. She is 4 years old and very sweet. I thought I would introduce her to everybody. Her name was Easy but I decided to change it to Breasy (Like breathe easy). She is a breath of fresh air. I combed her hair for the first time yesterday. I was worried I was going to hurt her. The most difficult part to comb is her nose and beard. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to make it easier and not painful for her? And so looking forward to getting to know all the havanese lovers and the havanese breed.

Breasy has such soulful eyes! She's a cutie-pie! Congrats on adopting and welcome to the Forum! I can't really speak to brushing/combing her facial hair, because Beau runs off and hides if I even walk towards the drawer where I keep his comb and brush! And so, the only advice I can offer is keep it slow and easy.

They're not my dogs -- I'm their person

Welcome! She is adorable.

I don't have any tips for you. My guys are in puppy cuts, which is more practical for me.

I'm sure someone will chime in!

Linda, Breasy is cut down because she had puppies. I'm not sure if he cut she has is a puppy cut or what it is. Though I did notice by her "beard" her hair gets a lil stringy and hard from food and water.

Welcome to you and Breasy. I hold Tyler by the snout and comb gently. Today he had a very small mat on one side and I just held the fur near the mat and combed until it came out, thus not pulling on his skin. He gets it done every day and, although it's probably not his favorite thing, he puts up with it. Breasy should be okay with it if she is a retired show dog as she must be very used to being groomed a lot. Again, welcome and good luck with your new addition. You'll love the breed.

Welcome and Breasy is beautiful. Since she is a retired show dog she should be use to having her muzzle and beard brushed. My guys love grooming, but I always work toward that goal from day one. I hold the beard and brush the muzzle and then brush the beard. If you have a matt you can work a bit of cornstarch into the matt with your fingers then gently comb it out from the bottom up. If it is just tangles spray the comb with a detangler like ice on ice, coat handler or any of the others that are on the market, just be sure to not get anything in the eyes.

Can't wait to see more pictures and hear all about your girl.

Robbie, Boo Boo, Yogi, and Misty's human.
Poohkey miss you, monkey.
