Cat Toys!!

Yes, Missy.......I am thinking of YOU and pulling you in on this thread

I was inspired (by Missy) to pick up a cat toy today for Gucci, since she has so many cat-like qualities about her. I think...wait, KNOW I picked the wrong toy! I bought the balls with bells/rattles in them and she went NUTS having fun chasing them around, it was a HUGE success until she caught one, and started chewing on it.......breaking the plastic! Ugh.

Oh well, maybe a little mouse next time. I looked at the dangly feather string, but I envisioned a shredding fest.

Also, I think I read somewhere that catnip doesnt' hurt dogs I know some toys have it in there. Has anyone heard otherwise? Anyone have any great cat toy suggestions?

Kara..
Most cat toys i see look so delicate like.. I'm sure ours guys would destroy these toys in minutes.. lol
I've seen some interesting ones at the pet stores, but have never bought thinking it would be a big waste of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$..
lol

Dora has tons of cat toys. Her favorite is a green ball with a raccoon looking tail that rolls around on it's own that she goes crazy for! This is a monitor toy but well worth it! We have had to reattach the tail many times. My maltese likes the crinkly small stuffed toys but Dora likes toys that fight back!

When Kubrick was at my mom's house he picked up one of the cat toys my mom knitted for the cats (it's basically a small ball with string hanging out of it - it looks like a mouse sort of). Anyway, Kubrick went CRAZY for the toy. According to my mom, he liked it much better than the cats ever did.

She is now knitting him three of them and sending them off to him so he can play! If you knit, they are really easy to make AND you can use leftover yarn for it since they're so small. I was going to make one, but my mom insists they are supposed to be from her only. LOL.

I don't mind getting a "monitor toy", just so long as she stays busy and has fun. They didn't have a big selection at Harris Teeter, but I will probably find something better at a pet store.

She does love her toys and gets so excited when I get new ones. Too bad the balls didn't work I have FIVE left. lol

How nice of your mom to knit some toys My son made a little "pillow" type thing with a string on it that she drags around and plays with all the time. He made it Home-Ec class (which NOW they call "teen living" lol)

There are bound to be a few sturdier cat toys out there!

My crew loves cat toys but they are too flimsy. So my husband has made sturdier versions of them & they go nuts!

Tee Hee. yes the cat toys were a hit with CASH-- who walked around hording all three and proceeded to detroy them in no time flat!!!! Poor Jasper didn't have a chance. Even the fur mouse had a flimsy hollow plastic mold on the inside that he just chewed apart. I guess they have to be lighter for cats. "The communicator" said no on the catnip that it is a depressant with dogs. but I had heard it was fine for dogs too. Let me know if you find any good ones!!!!

I will see if I can come up with something sturdier.

OR...I will ask my 12 year old to invent something, he's my little inventor. When he was 3 years old I caught him taking apart my hairdryer to "build something" And he has built/invented many things since then. Of course, nothing marketable yet, but its coming. In fact, he came up with an idea for a dog-high chair, we need to patent that one. lol...because people like ME would buy it.

She really liked the bells inside the ball, so maybe I could figure out a way to put them in the tennis balls? and maybe a string? lol

I'll have to research catnip, knowing my luck there will be two conflicting schools of thought. And no proof on either. lol, just like with the foods.

Missy, I think its great, btw, that Jasper has a job! I bet his confidence level is climbing. Ya know, I need to figure out a way to train Gucci to scare the FROGS out of the pool, that seems to be a big problem lately...the ducks are gone, but now there are frogs. Lots of them...and If I don't pull them out, they get eaten by the vaccuum thingy.

Fortunately for Brady, Abbie (the ragdoll cat) is kind enough to share her toys. As most of you know, she brings her toys up from the basement every night and gives them to Brady. She mainly carries small stuffed animals, medium sized mice, and what I call puff balls. You can find some stuffed mice that do not have the hollow core. Brady is a fan of those. For some reason, he is actually pretty gentle with the cat toys. He has only torn apart one or two "puff balls". No hard feelings from Abbie though, she has plenty more.

Brady is SOOO cute!

I swear, I can sit here all day and DOTE over everyone's Havs! While, of course, doting on my own.

My best friend is considering getting a dog, and I told her to come here and ask her questions, because she is wondering how it would get along with the cat. So, if you see any questions like that, please post to her! She is fantabulous, and I know she would be a perfect Hav-mom.
