Going away for a week

Every year we go on a cruise in March, last year was the first with Kobi. I had a neighbor with a small dog and kids take care of him. They and he loved it! The neighbors have since moved and I am besides myself and don't know where to begin. I don't want to put Kobi in a kennel. How do I find someone who watches dogs in their home? I am in Michigan, in a northern suburb of Detroit. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Wish I had an answer for you. I had to board mine last year while we went on a Cruise-it's hard to do. If you can't find a person does your vet's office offer boarding? If so that would be better for Kobi since he is already familiar with the people there.
Good Luck.

If you don't mind bringing him to Grand Rapids I would be willing to watch Kobi. We are going to be gone March 2-9. What are your dates? My parents live in Washington Twp and take their dogs to a lady near Armada. I could get her info if you want.

Check out the doggy vacay website. It is awesome. It list people in your area who watch dogs in their homes.

Thank you so much for your suggestions.
Linda, I will definitely check out that website! My vet does not offer boarding.
Lynne, I am very familiar with Grand Rapids, my daughter went to Grand Valley and my organization holds music competitions there every 3 years. Our dates are 3/14 - 3/23. I will talk to my husband about this, you are so sweet to suggest this! Will let you know what we have come up with.

We are very easy to get to-second light north of Meijer Gardens. Let me know what you think.

Ask around friends and family; you never know who really loves dogs and might jump at the opportunity to dog sit. Good luck.

I use a kennel regularly with no problems; i know them well and know they take good care of my dogs when i can't. For my next trip my dog trainer is going to take them; i'll pay her some cash "under the table" she makes money and I know they are in good hands.
