Red face Going up/down stairs

Ok, now I have an issue with Beamer using the stairs..
Since he was 4 or 5 months he would have no porblem going up the stairs in our house. He would run up them as fast as possible with no porblem. (he never went down the stairs though..) We were told not to let him do stairs until he has 6 months old.. so we kept on telling him NO!.. Well it worked.. worked tooo good!?! Now he refuses to use the stairs in our house!! He will not go up them no matter what.. even if we put his favorite treat on the steps...

Any advice to reverse this?? lol

The only stairs he goes up and down are the ones that lead down to the grass from our patio.. 3 steps.. and at the front door,, 4 steps..

Thansks,
Ryan

Kubrick was going up and down stairs at 3 months with no problems. If you really can't make him get up the stairs maybe you can use a leash and have him follow you up the stairs and give him a treat for every step or so? Just an idea.

I love the new avatars of Beemer, Gucci, and Kubrick. They just keep getting cuter and cuter.

Oh Beamer. Have you tried playing on the stairs with his favorite toy? One of you stand at the bottom of the stairs, the other in the middle and see if he'll play fetch over just a few of the stairs at a time. Gradually increase the # of stairs. Make it fun with big cheers.

My guys have a squeek toy they'll go anywhere for!

We were told by our breeder to not let him climb stairs till 6 months old.... I guess its better for their limbs and what not? He used to love going up the stairs.. now he is scared.. not sure if he is scared of the stairs or scared of my wife yelling at him??? lol

I was told not to let them run, hike, jump from anything higher than their height until 1 yr old. I think it had to do with ligaments or something. It was impossible for me to stop any of the above! Puppies run, jump, etc. Scudders was doing steps at 10 weeks.....opps and long hikes too.
It's kind of a cute problem to have. Beamer is such a good boy! I am sure if you work with him step by step, he will be running up and down in no time!

Sorry, but I am of no help. We discouraged Brady from going down our basement stairs. The basement is "safe haven" for our cats. Brady won't even take a step down them. It turned out to be a wonderful thing. The cats just take one step down and he stops dead in his tracks. Strangely enough, he will do any other stairs, including my in-laws basement.

I agree with the other suggestions. I would work on going up first since it may not be as scary. Then, maybe he will realize it is okay and start to try down.

Gryff flies up and down the stairs. Most of the time, he nearly knocks me over. In fact, he has two particular steps he likes to lay on (not smart, I know). He was only afraid of the steps for about two days.

I would try treats to get him up and down, like it was mentioned here earlier. That should do the trick in no time.
