Boarding questions?

Hello!!!
I was wondering at what age would be good to board your puppy. I was thinking about boarding Jillee this saturday because we are going camping. I really do not want to take her because I do not trust some of the kids eventhough they are my family. I am going to have my hands full with my twin nephews. I just do not feel comfortable taking her. I can not leave her home because she would need to be let out to go potty. So I was just thinking of what you guys think. I really torn. I would rather take her but do not want anything to happen to her.

I have no idea on the age, but I would recommend that you get boarding referrals from someone near you if you can't leave Jillee with her breeder or another Hav family. I've never boarded any of my dogs, but the puppies that were born here do come back for visits when their humans can't take them on a trip. I've also had other Havs come visit for a bit too. It saves some worry.

Do you have a friend that would be willing to watch Jillee at their home while you're away?

By the way, if you really like your veterinarian and get down to not finding any places to board that leave you feeling comfortable with Jillee staying, you may want to ask if they will board her. Sometimes our Vet Techs will also offer to board a dog at their home for the weekend, which is a nice alternative if you know the Tech.

Just trying to think of more options for you.

Thank you for the ideas!!!! Leann Jillee will be arriving this Friday then!!!!!! She will keep you company while Monte is having his procedure!!!! I do not trust any of my friends as they have young children. I would be too afraid they would let her out by accident....too scary. I will think of something I am sure!!!!

Megan if my house is empty and the furniture is all gone when you come pick her up don't worry she is in good hands.
These are the times that I really do wish some of the crazy people on this forum did live closer to me. I know if I left them with any one of you they would be in GREAT hands.

I know I want you to move or we move...hey you never know with the jobs now a days...we may have to move. Where my husband works there was a man killed this past saturday. He was smashed between two pieces of big equipment. It is the secound death withen Daimlyer Chrysler in two years. It is very sad. Thank you Laurief for offering Jillee a place to stay!!! I am sure she would have fun there!!!!!

I agree about so called boarding of Havanese .. They do not seem to take well to being kenneled .. I never kenneled my dogs and Donna never kennels Tulip - we would help each other out or sometimes we left them with a Vet tech .
Ask around - ask friends if they would take her as it is such a short period of time or ask your trainer if she babysits small dogs - if you had your dog in obedience classes ..
Also ask at a local pet food store - not a petco but if you frequent a private local one .. That is how I got a lot of wonderful referrals and recommendations when I was in the desert . A lovely woman who owns a pet store called Bones and Sconces - she was the best - she was involved in Rescue and she knew a lot of wonderful people .. Just chat them up as my brother would say ! They love to be of help - she helped me find good kibble for Cosmo and Leah the trainer.. She always gave me samples to try to keep the cost down ..
Our behaviourist in the desert told me she would take the dogs and keep them at her home but some people will come to you . I do not know if you are comfortable with this or not some people do not like other people in the home .
I left Asta with a vet tech and he stayed in her home . Donna had left Tulip with her so I knew she was good as Donna is very fussy and strict .. Jan ( the petsitter ) had two other little dogs and they played well and they loved each other .
Now I have the two and I thought it was easier to have someone come and stay here . Cosmo has never been away from me since Igot him except the one time he got sick .. I know overprotective Mom !!.
I found a wonderful woman through petsitters international and I found her online .
She came twice for orientation .. She was fantastic and put up with the remodeling of the house and cooking food for the boys ..
The one thing I should stress is make sure that you check their references or else really trust the person the referral came from .
If you are taking them to their home take their crate food and a favorite toy or two and a t shirt with your scent .
Make sure they know who your vet is and if he does not work on weekends the number of the Emergency Vet .. The vet may require a consent to treat and also may require a credit card number and a verbal OK if they have to treat the dog in a emergency ..
Not trying to make you nervous but things happen ..
Like Kimberly said also some breeders are happy to take their dogs back for short periods of time and that is a wonderful option as well .
Good luck .. Best to try and find someone just in case as there always comes a time when you have to go somewhere and you cannot take your dog .
Now that I have two dogs that is one dog too many for my friend Donna so things change even with best friends ..

I found a great dog sitter that will stay at my house when I go away. I feel better that my dogs are in a familiar place. Maybe this is something you can look into?
