Food Allergies?

Allergies
Annabelle has been increasingly scratching for the last year plus. I talked with our vet and he said chewing on the paws and reoccurring ear problems are generally food allergies. He suggested a strict fish/potato diet for two weeks to see if things change. We found Blue brand salmon/potato at PetSmart.
It worked but she started to scratch again by the third month. She also gained 3lbs! Either a new allergy developed with the salmon/potato or something else flared up.
The vet then told us to change her food back to work on her weight and gave her prednisone. It worked too until the dosage ran out and now she is overweight AND scratching herself like crazy.
Are there any fish/potato products out there that aren't so fattening or should we try something else? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. We LOVE her and hate to see her so miserable.

Tyler, who is 15 1/2, is on Natural Balance LID Sweet Potato and Fish for small breeds. It is 10% fat and 21% protein, which I know is low, but he spends most the day sleeping at this stage in his life and doesn't require much. He did lose weight on it when he started it about 1 1/2 years ago but has been stable ever since. It also solved his soft stool problem which I think was due to either chicken or grains or both which were in his previous food. This is a grain free product. He also loves it and eats with gusto, something he never did before.

There's a nutritionist who does a lot of consultations for havs on this forum who have special food needs - I think that her name is Sabine? Dave will know, and can tell you more. I would definitely recommend getting an expert's help. Lots of people have used her and all have been very happy that they did...

Good luck! How old is Annabelle?

She's 5. Absolutely the sweetest... She chews on her paws constantly and I really don't think my vet has enough nutritional experience. I'm new to the forum. How do I find Sabine?

Message Dave (davetgabby, http://www.havaneseforum.com/member.php?u=2770). He'll have her information.

In case you don't already know, we love pictures - you should start a new post introducing yourself and Annabelle, with some pics!
