Huh.... a snuggle bug?

Timmy has always been a friendly little guy, not one to sit on my lap, but happy to be in the same room as me. Tim always preferred to sleep in his bed, which is a nice one I have to say. One of his normal routines is to come over to me on the couch, put his front legs up, and tap me on the leg. He never jumps on the couch, or off it unless he falls off. Whenever I would lean over to pet him or see what he wanted he would always run away, kind of like a game. Over the weekend when he was coming over to tap on my leg he would turn himself around to be picked up and put on my lap which he then would happily lay down and fall asleep, the cats were not happy having to share my lap. Coincidentally I am also concentrating on improving eye contact with him when we're training, something he never excelled at. Tim's last trainer said it's so important for them to look at us so we know they are paying attention and ready for our next move, I never gave it much thought, but now I'm getting it. I'm wondering if our improved eye contact has something to do with his latest snuggling. I have noticed lately that he will gaze up at me when we're out walking or just in the yard, but perhaps I'm just more in tuned to looking for it. So now we have new dynamics to work out... sharing my lap with his sisters, having to remove stuff that he would either chew up or lick (remotes, crochet hooks, laptops) and remembering to make sure he's off the couch if I go out, although I'm sure if he had he's figure a way off.

What a coincidence! McGee has just started laying right up against me when I'm on he sofa in the last couple of weeks! Since Abby has never been a snuggler at all I am thrilled! He was two the first of February and I'm wondering why now?? I'm enjoying it for however long I lasts!

When Augie was small, he refused to be held for any length of time. Now he loves to crawl on our laps and be held while he naps. I think training DOES make a positive impact on your relationship with your pup. I certainly noticed that with Augie. It is still harder for me to get his attention and to maintain it than it is with Finn, even though I have been working with Augie a lot longer. If there is something that is very interesting to Augie, like smells, I can't get his attention very easily at all. Finn may be my big stinker, but he is definitely easier to work with. He communicates like a little human.

I think Kodi may have been more like Finn. I didn't have another one for comparison, but he was a BUSY baby. If I didn't keep him busy in a constructive way, he'd keep himself busy getting into trouble!!! But, with that, came his tremendous desire to work with me, which was exactly what I was looking for!

Django has been a snuggle bug since day one. Some days more than others.

Awe so cute... looks like Timmy from the other day. His head was hanging off my lap but he was sound asleep.

funny how these little guys change it up. Jasper was a very solo independent puppy. liked to communicate, and kept an eye on us. but often when it was time to rest liked to retreat in his own space. about 3-4 years ago He decided he needs to be right next to us when relaxing.

Cash on the other hand who as a puppy was a snuggle bug now likes some of his own space.

I often wonder if in our case if it is a case of who is top dog for the day or week, as I think my boys are very passively competitive.

But I will say that your idea of engagement and eye contact may have something to do with it... I believe that jasper's cuddly affection coincided with our renewed effort to stimulate them with new tricks and more walks. (I also think he was kicking Cash out of cuddle zone-- poor Cash-- we of course make sure Cash gets all the cuddles he wants)

that's sweet! I think they just know when we need a lil' more snuggling

I'm glad I have my snuggle bug on these cold nights!
