New Puppy Sings the Bkues

Hi. We brought our choc red sable home yesterday ( still debating names: Pretzel, Blanche, or Bumble Bean [BB]), and of course she's as beautiful as all Havanese. For a first night away from her litter mates and friends, she didn't do too badly at all, even used wee pads like a pro. She did wake up to sing the blues a few times...and howl like a little furry banshee. But she's adorable, even at 4:15a.m. We're confident the howling will go away as she acclimates to her new home. Any hints to help the process along?
Thanks, LLH

And second night he howled only 2 times we ignored completely And since then no peep till date. He goes into his crate in expen with peepad at 8:30 pm and I take him out at 6:00am. I vote for the name Pretzel! That was one of my favorite childhood books as well as my daughters. Can't wait to see the pics.

Question Pics

Hi. I think I submitted a photo album & profile photo of our new puppy. Maybe I did it wrong. I'll try again. Name is still in negotiations. Thanks for votes/responses. We keep changing it, but our deadline so we can start calling her something besides "pup" is noon today.
Howling at night has improved somewhat. Now, if I can just get her to understand I'll return when i leave her sight. I know she's still getting used to all the big changes though. These things take time. She really has a pitiful howl. It really does sound like she's singing doggie blues, mourning her loss of litter mates. Hard to resist comforting her every time she does it, , but so far I have most of the time.
I just hope this isn't a separation anxiety issue getting a good start. I'm home most of the time, but will gone a few hours here and there, too eventually. Right now, I've cleared off everything else so I can get her used to us & vice versa. We keep her confined to an ex pen with wee pads & doorless crate with blanket at night. And during the day she stays confined there except for play & going out. I sit nearby in kitchen to watch for signs she needs to go out after eating, play sleep. She's in there except for play and going out. Does all this sound reasonable?

Your setup sounds very close to what we have for our puppy. My husband worked from home for first 3 weeks and we had a schedule for the puppy to be in and out of expen so he knew what to expect. Example: He gets out of the pen at 6:00am, plays and eats breakfast till 7:30am. Then he goes to his pen to take a nap and my husband was in his office facing the pen but will not take him out till 10:30-11:00 (he has peepad in the pen). He got a walk for 10-15 min and went back to pen till 2:00pm till our housekeeper came in and kids got home. After that he would be out mostly with kids and housekeeper and me we took turns watching playing with him and he would eat his dinner around 6:30pm. Potty and then go back to pen at 8:30pm. So after 2 weeks he knew that morning he has to stay in his pen and evening he gets to play. Now we leave him in his pen from 7:00am-12:00noon every day and he is fine (I have puppy cam) and my house keeper comes in around 12 to get him out for a little bit.

Smile

Thank you SO much for sharing the picture of your puppy set-up and of Odieo, who is absolutely adorable and has the sweetest face!
Your schedule sounds like what we'll settle into eventually, minus the kids toward the end of the day. My husband will have to do!
But it's especially good to know we're on solid ground with what we're doing so far. Well, as solid as we can be with a puppy, who changes a little every day.
Odieo looks like a very happy and loved pup.
