I decided to start a new thread as to not hijack the bag/stroller thread. I know a few of you are fostering or adopting or helping a friend so I thought this would help.
It has been awhile since I have fostered but I have moved and I am now working full time and now have a small place but something I was really scared to do being young and not having much dog experience but I found it very easy!
Here is the little guy we had:
That is my husband to a T. He was like amanda, I fall in love with everything and there is no way I am going to give it up if it has 3 legs and one eye (the dog he bought that lives with his parents has 1 eye, cd, tons of health problems). Well, I took Avy in and he was absolutely loved. He was from a puppy mill originally but a couple had him for 9-10 months. He loved people but he had no manners. He would jump up in your face, he would jump on top of the table, etc. He grew up with 2 truckers (literally who drove cross country) and wasn't in a house so he knew no rules. My job was to socialize him and make him understand rules without letting him kill himself as he was a "bull in a china shop." He literally learned in order to get pet, he had to sit the first day. Isabelle helped like crazy. She doesn't like chaos and will take control so fast, your eyes spin. She let him know what wasn't right and what was and she probably did more for him, than I did. I was lucky because I took Avy to a Havanese gathering a week after he came to my house. There was a family there that was looking to adopt but they didnt want a little fussy dog. Well Avy was anything but. He needed a high energy home and they had 2 children, and the mom was a marathon runner. They wanted to take him home that day!!! I didn't feel he was quite ready and a week later, they didn't leave me alone about him, we did a weekend to make sure he fit in with their older dog and it was perfect! I ran into them at a 5K pet run, I don't think I could have given him as good of a home... that is what fostering is all about!
