Question Is he guarding his territory?

Duncan has found his bark in a very loud way. This past weekend hubby was away on business and Duncan was "man" of the house and before hubby left he had a "talk" with Duncan about watching the house and girls and I think Duncan took it to heart.
Each time he heard the slightest sounds Fri and sat night he started growling and jumping off the bed to investigate.
Now if anyone comes near my fence he goes into his stance and barks like who's there???I like that fact that he announces people, but it's getting a little crazy.
Any thoughts on how to curb his enthusiasm.
BTW,hubby is back and last night Duncan didn't move or make a sound all night.
Weird huh????

I think we was protecting you and the girls. What a good boy.

I saw an episode of the Dog Whisperer with a dog who would bark at anybody who walked past the house. He taught the dog SHHH. I would try giving treats for keeping quiet. I'm sure you could find that episode on the show's blog.

Gryff barks at deer. I think he thinks they are invading his turf. He doesn't bark at smaller animals, but the deer really bug him.

I swear these dogs understand every word we are saying. Well, maybe not the part about the potty is outside only, but just about everything else.....

There was a thread on dog communicators where someone posted about talking to your dog and explaining what you want or what's going on.

I think I got the link above right.

It sounds like Duncan took your husband's words to heart.
