Sherpa Bag

I bought a Sherpa bag to use both in the car and on plane trips. It has a leash ring on the inside. I would like to use the leash ring to hook a short length of lead for when I am using it in the car. I would be able to leave the top open and let Squirt sit and look out, be able to lay down, but not jump out of the bag.

But where do you find that kind of a very short lead with a snap on both ends -- one to hook to her harness and one to hook to the bag. I haven't found anything in the stores or on line, but I'm not sure I am looking in the right place.

What are they called?

Try looking at Petedge if you haven't already. They have quite a few different things...they may have what you are looking for--or something you can adapt.Just an idea.

We have been using the sherpa bag in the car too -- Scout just sits in it very contently. However, I know it is not the safest option as I don't think there is any effective way to seatbelt in the sherpa. I think we will look into a Lookout seat or one of the other dog "carseats".

I read on the Sherpa website that it had a seatbelt strap in the back. When I pulled out the papers that came with the bag, it said to put the seatbelt through the shoulder straps. It was obvious that wouldn't have done much good. So I put the seat/shoulder belt through the horizontal strap on the back that also works to go over a rolling luggage handle. That worked fine.

But I would like to find a short length of leash strap with a hook at both ends. I am sure they make something like that but I have no idea where to look or what it might be called. PetEdge doesn't have anything.

Here's a picture of the bag, the horizontal strap is shown in the picture. The blurb for the bag says: Seat belt safety strap fits conveniently over upright luggage handle

Awesome ideas. I'll experiment with different lengths using a regular leash tied onto the D-ring to see what length I am going to need. The coupler thingy is what I was thinking of, thanks. I don't know if I will make one or use a coupler but you all helped me solidify my thoughts.

I am trying to wrap my mind around how to put the seatbelt around the front and the shoulder strap through the straps. The belt and strap are attacthed.

I think a ride today is in order.

You really just have to fiddle with it. I put the waist belt around the lower part and it seemed to hold it in place.

I think a few, maybe 3-4 couplers would work?? Depending on how long they are and how much "movement" you want him to have. I'd like for the dogs to be able to turn around and lie in either direction and move freely in the bag without getting strangled. lol You can even make your own if you are crafty. I buy all my leash supplies here:

I have also done what Kara suggested and I think I ordered from the same company. But i have also gotten those pieces of hardware from Home Depot and Joanne's Fabric Store if you need it immediately.

You found the leash clips at Home Depot or Joannes? My Joanne's only carries D-rings, and HD does too, but they are the bigger clunkier ones.

Where are the leash clips at HD?

In home depot I found them in the area where they sell chain links. They are not tiny. In Joannes they have them in the notions but they might be plastic. I bought them to replace a glove hook on a ski jacket. I wanted to make dog collars one time and I ordered the d rings and hook part from an online store, then after I got it I came accross the hardware at these places. I think I also saw the hardware in a home decorating fabric store.
