Memory Question

Timmy and I are visiting my mom in Florida for a few days. The last time we were here was over Christmas. Timmy is a pretty fearful fellow that loves his routine, and who takes a while to settle in new places. We arrived yesterday and he walked into the house like he never left, he even went to the cabinet his toys are in. Obviously he has some memory of being here I was just surprised how good it was. We went for a walk this morning, three miles to be exact, and I wanted to walk just past my mom's condo entrance to see some birds down the road, but Timmy knew thats where he was supposed to turn to go home and woudn't budge a bit further. Could he have remembered that's where we turn from our walk four months ago? Was is a smell thing?

We're just sitting by the pool now enjoying the temperature before it gets too hot. My mom wants to go out to lunch later and bring Tim, but I think it will be too hot. Yesterday was in the 90's, a bit too warm for my taste, but it's so relaxing in "La La Land" I'll put up with the heat.

He does remember! we moved out from a home over a year ago and have only been back a couple times. They get out of the car and run to the front door. I don't like it too hot either the pool sounds nice.

Oh my Hav and cat both remember my parents' place. The first time the settling took a while for my Hav (ie stress diarrhea), but ever since then he makes himself at home almost immediatley!

I typically go to my mom and dad's twice a year (once at Christmas and once during the summer). Plus, when I first got Brody we were staying there (the breeder lives about an hour away from my parents) before heading back to my place. Brody always remembers the place. In fact, last summer when we went back, the first thing he did when getting to my mom and dad's was to go hunting for their dog Piper (who had passed). He went to every place she usually could be found. It was sort of sad when he couldn't find her.

When he was 6 months we went to his breeder's place for a puppy picnic she was having. He definitely remembered there too.

Dogs are much less good at reasoning, and very poor at generalizing behaviors, but they DO have EXCELLENT memories!
