Jasper the Nurturer

Jasper has never been a caregiver like some of your Hav's. So this morning really took me by surprise and melted my heart.

I have been working a lot lately- and had trouble sleeping last night, everything was hurting- So thinking all my boys were sound asleep (jasper, cash and DH) I got up quietly to go downstairs at 2am. Well a few minutes later DH gets up and lets Jasper out - he had been scratching at the bedroom door, Jasper came down stairs, sat on my lap, gave me kisses and then curled up on the couch keeping his eyes on me. When we finally went back upstairs I lead him to his crate on DH's side of the bed but then heard his little pitter patter on my side of the bed- I pulled him up and he tucked me in with a few more kisses and then settled in to the curve of my back. The best heating pad possible for those aches and pains. Michael wasn't too thrilled about being woken up-- But I loved the company.

Missy,

That is such a sweet story! Sounds like he got the best reward in the world getting to cuddle in bed instead of that lonely crate! I do think they really sense when we are off. I've always wondered if they can sense our gratitude when they are super sweet/nurturing. I also wonder if the fact that we allow them some sense of 'protecting' us if that instigates their nurturing behaviors like some psych's say it does.

Missy, I love that story. You have been so good to share your stories with us, I feel like I know Jasper.

Casper still doesn't seem to have that nurturing feeling yet, but maybe as he gets older. My first dog years ago, was always right there, when I was sick or sad, he would lick my tears.

Oh what a sweetie!! They are the best arent they, I stepped on some bug yesterday that stung the underside of my foot, and I yelped, all 3 came running to me with kisses and looks of concerns. They sure do help ease what ails you!!

That is such an adorable thing to do! Kubrick also will follow me everywhere, but not because I feel sick, just because that's how he is. LOL. I don't think he is any more nurturing when I'm sick. He treats me with the same amount of cuddliness as he usually does when I'm well.

Believe me Lynn, this totally took me by surprise. Jasper is usually just so in his own world-- He turns 2 in January-- how old is Casper now? Maybe Missy will be your little nurturer! How is she doing?

Michele, Marie, I truly do love em. And he really does seem to be coming into his own. Which is good because I fear Cash is beginning to test us in all ways now that he is turning one. But Cash is still my baby boy cuddle bear who gets along with everything and everyone and he retrieves--- so I really do love em both!!! But I do have to admit (kind of guiltily) , I have a soft spot for Jassy- I know this is wrong thinking in terms of dog psychology-- but he does just seem to have more "human-like" emotions than Cash.

Hi Missy,

Casper turned one Sept 2nd. and I can see he will probably be nurturing....maybe someday Casper and Missy are getting along well, he is not nurturing with her either. It is good he has someone to play with, he likes that.

Missy has not helped his separation anxiety problem. We have been trying to leave the two home alone for short periods and video recording it. Missy doesn't care if we are gone, and Casper howls and barks the whole time.

Sorry to here you are working alot lately and not feeling well. We send you lots of
