Changes?

I'm getting pressure from the family (they work for computer companies and to them gromit means error) to change his name to Comet.
I not sure yet but hopefully it won't be to hard for him.

Sally,((Oliver)) Comet and Pennie too!

I think that they sound enough a like that he will do fine. Just call the name, and when he responds treat him. I had to change my cats name when he got older from Savanah to Savage cause we took him in for spay and - oops he was a boy
"Comet will do great" He is a beauty!!

That will happen easily! I swear Dora takes off as soon as I make the "dah" sound! I could change her name to anything with a D and she wouldn't notice!

Have you tried it to see if he reacts already? I understand what you mean and that isn't a nice name if that is what you are thinking!

Sally,
I don't think you'll hve any problems. Our previous dog, our beloved little Maggie that was adopted from the shelter, was named Peanut when we got her. She just wasn't a Peanut so Maggie she became. No problems whatsovever changing her name.

Maddie was orginally Wendy I think so there's another example. I'm pretty certain these guys don't care what you call them. It's how you treat them that counts. After all, we call our girls any number of nicknames. They respond to just about anything depending upon the tone of voice we use.

Pick a name that means something to you.

Reading this reminds me of the thread that we were all talking about the different nicknames we have for our fur kids and how they all respond to all of them.

Sally you are gong to come up with so many different names for him over the next few months and you know he will respond to all of them. so I dont think changing his perm. name is going to make any difference. You could allways keep Gromit as a nickname for when he is getting into trouble "you little Gromit what are you doing? shredding the TP is a no no.." lol

Sully was known as Smokey for the first 9 plus months of his life. He took to Sully the first night when my son kept calling him that. By the 3rd day, that was it, he was Sully!

I think the name conversion will go just fine IF that is what YOU truly want to do.

Sally- There shouldn't be any problem at all. I had promised my husband he could name our next dog, since I had named our first Hav. When Maddie came to us at 8 months old, she was "Wendy". I liked that name, but let my husband have his turn. Maddie had no problem switching, and came to her new name within a day or two. They respond to the tone in your voice more than anything. That's why they'll come to their various nicknames as well.

I don't think it will be a problem at all. Most people I know change the dog's name when they get him/her and none of the dogs seem to mind.

Sally,

I changed Milo's name when I got him. The breeder had named him Pico and it just didn't work for me. It took a very short while for him to get used to it, along with everything else in his new world. He'll do fine with the new name.

Just Milo and me, and . . . Bailey makes three . . . until Ruby said, "hey, what about me?"

My 6 year old nephew Nicholas has been calling him Comet all day and loves that name. They have been playing most of the day but it has been raining so no photos.
Discovered the Gromet Comet doesn't like going out in the rain
