BTK pesticide being sprayed in Toronto dog parks

I'm probably overreacting, but I just read the following report in our local news:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toront.../toronto-.html

The city of Toronto will be spraying certain parks with "bacillus thuringiensis subspecies kurstaki" pesticide over the next few weeks, including the park where I take Pickles several times a week. BTK pesticide is supposed to be non toxic to humans and animals, but every research link I found was from either a provincial or municipal government site. Not too reassuring.

Should I be concerned about this?

i would find out when they were spraying and avoid the park for a week or two afterwards (or at least until there have been a couple of heavy rainfalls to wash it away). "probably safe" isn't safe enough for me.

Just called the city hotline - they can't give me a specific date, other than spraying will happen between May 21 and June 11, and it's weather-dependent. Ugh. I guess Pickles won't be going to his favourite park until the end of June at the earliest.

SIGH.

That's kind of how I feel. We HAD to have our trees sprayed for winter moth, because they have been really decimated the past couple of years. They ASSURE me that the horticultural oil they use is very safe, both to humans and to birds and mammals. What I've been able to find online says the same thing. But I STILL closed all the windows the day they sprayed and we left the house. I didn't let Kodi out in the areas that had been sprayed until after it had rained hard.
