Scary start to Mother's Day -for 2 MOms!

My mother's day started out wonderful = my son spent the weekend home, he made me breakfast, and we were ready to head out to the nursery for my gardening "needs" - when I let the pups out to potty before we left.
The three older ones came in. When I called for Laila (the other Mommy in the house), she did not come in. She was on the deck when I stepped into the house with the others! SHE WAS GONE!!!! Hubby runs out and tells me that "someone" (meaning HIM, since he is the only one that uses it) didn't latch the gate and it blew open!!!!!!! My heart sank. I ran out, calling her name and "chicken treats" cause that is the one thing she will go ANYWHERE for!!
Nothing - looked into the woods - nothing - jumped in my car and drove around - nothing------by now I am in a panic.
I pull into the driveway and my son says that she came back - got back into the back yard thru a small hole in the lattice around the deck. Thank God that hole was there!!!! (it has now been closed up)
Poor little girl was scared to death!!! Shaking and panting!
I am so thankful to have her back home!!!
So scary!

I almost didn't want to read this after seeing the title, but I'm happy to hear little Laila is back safe and sound. Scary doesn't even to begin to describe how you must have felt. My cats are indoor cats and when one of them got out I was terrified. I found her sitting at the back door after getting out of the basement window that a workman had broken. Phew, so glad to hear everything turned out okay, did you ever end up going to the nursery?

That is my greatest fear. NO ONE uses my back gate. It is not only bolted but has a lock on it. Hubby has to take the mower out to the front yard by going through the garage. The phone company complained about not being able to get into my yard. I told them they either walk through my house or they are SOL.

So glad she came home.

Yes Jennifer I did make it to the nursery - and the rest of the day was heaven as my 26 year old son sat in the gardens with me and planted, then we had a lovely dinner on the deck before he went home. It was a great ending for the day!

NO one uses that gate EXCEPT my husband. Believe me, he is very anal and normally closes it tightly, but I suspect it wasnt 100% latched, and we had a lot of wind Saturday which probably blew it open.

I am just so thankful that my sweet little Momma was smart enough to come back home where she belongs!!!!

What this DID do is remind me to put my guys in collars - or at least Laila. She did NOT have a collar on!! My other three have been trained extensively on the electric fence in the front - and even though they do not wear the collars - they never go near the boundry. Laila was trained - but she has always lived to the beat of a "different" drummer and is very very inquisitive! So I think I need to keep a collar on her at all times!!!

I didnt post this to complain, as I am so lucky she came back, and lucky to have a hubby that IS very careful about the pups - but it makes us all realize that crazy things can happen!!!

Whew, that's everyone's fear. I'm so glad she came back and is happy and safe now
I think a lot of us don't have the collars on in the house, especially if we keep our dogs in long coats but it makes you wonder if we shouldn't leave them on all the time because it's always when we DON'T expect it when stuff like this happens.

Glad your mothers day turned out good after all that!!
