Got a Weird Ritual Going....

Finn has always been kind of a strange little duck. Lately, when it is time to go out for potty break (they go out on leash with either DH or myself), he makes a beeline for his crate. So Augie goes out first. Then we have to go over to Finn's crate and tap lightly a couple of times on the top of his crate, and out he will come and we put leash on him and away we go. I have no idea what we did that he thinks that is the potty procedure/etiquette, but it has been going on for a few weeks now....without fail.

They all seem to have their habits. Ours have an electric dog door they use with no problems except at night and first thing in the morning they have to be let out the front door they return through the dog door.

Funny in a weird way. Charlie all of the sudden quit coming downstairs in the morning with me and Lucy to go out. Use to be they'd both race me down to the door and wait for me to take them out. Now I can call him all the way down and he still doesnt come unless my husband nudges him off the bed. Isnt it weird how they csn have such different personalities?

That is funny I wounder what he is thinking. Zoey plays the run away thing when I get her harness out. she will come up to me and then take off running . She acts like shes playing. I have to pretend to leave without her and she comes running like don't leave me. We always go have fun so I don't get the game she's playing.

When Jack was a puppy, we had his ex-pen set up so he could go out the sliding door. When we opened the door, Jack could go on one side of the ex-pen, Nessie would go on the other side. She would weave through the chairs and such (didn't have to, just did) to get to the door. Even though the ex-pen is gone, Nessie still weaves and always goes to that one side of the door.

TTFN,
Pam

Kodi doesn't run away, but he gets so wiggly (because he's excited about the walk) that it's hard to get the harness on. No I just say, "I'm not going to play that game!" and take the harness and my hands away. One time, and he'll stand like a rock. But we still have to go through this ritual EVERY time to get the harness on.

I think BC's and Shelties were born to weave. Every one I've been in an agility class with has always CHOSEN to do any weaves that happen to be between them and the crating area when they finish a course.

They ARE characters! I have been trying to go over our routine and possibly have come across what is happening. Finn has to be crated when I can't be inside to watch him or he will get himself into trouble, although I have noticed that in the past month he is not quite as 'busy'. I didn't think I always took them out in the same order, but I think it is related to him being crated when Augie goes out. I don't think I will worry about it as he always comes out with just a light tap on the top of the crate - he is not hunkering in it, trying to avoid going out, like hiding from his bath! He is so quick to pick things up that I am sure I inadvertently trained him to do that - 'Mom always does this, so I am supposed to go in my crate' type of thing. When I tell them I am going to go up and take a bath, he goes in his crate. Or when I tell them I am going to go out and get an espresso. It has been a task trying to think ahead of that boy though - I always feel like he is one step ahead of me!

I have enjoyed reading about other odd little rituals of other Havs. Keep them coming!
