Ex- pen recommendations

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum. After much research, we decided a Havanese was the best fit for our family. We will be getting one late August (mommy is pregnant now...babies due mid-June and we get to bring our baby home at 10 weeks!).

So right now is all about getting the stuff we need for when puppy comes home (plus I need to keep myself busy so the time will go by faster!!!). I've been looking at the ex-pens available, and am wondering which would be better: one of the metal wire ones or one of the plastic ones (I was looking at an Iris). Is there a type that is better/safer for Havanese? Is it just personal preference?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I have the Iris ex-pen. I started out with the 4 panel and ended up having to expand it by buying 2 additional panels. in retrospect i should've bought a higher expen because my baby who is 9 months figured out how to escape to freedom just yesterday... *sigh*

I swear I put her in the ex-pen but was so shocked to see her roaming around O_O

so all in all I'm very satisfied with the Iris ex-pen but probably would've bought the taller/ larger 8 panel one. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I was actually looking at the 8-panel one, as I figured that our Hav might run out of room!

Our breeder suggested a 24 inch tall ex-pen, but I had heard of Havs jumping out, so I have started looking at taller ones.

I like the thought of the plastic ones because we have two boys, 7 & 8. I'm worried about them getting hurt on the metal ones if they are being clumsy or what-not.

Do you find yours sturdy enough?

Thanks again!

We love the iris in our kitchen 4x4 still perfect for our almost 14 wk old keeper. I have the black metal one for outside and in case she out grows this one. Also got baby gates for the kitchen but make sure they go all the way to floor. So far this set up has been very sturdy and works great for our needs! Good luck!!
