Question Raw meaty bones

Hey all..

To any of you that feed raw..

Has anyone here given the Raw meaty bones? Do you give these as treats?

Is so, where do you let them eat/knaw at it?? I can't imagine Beamer dragging a raw meaty bone around the house .. lol..

Anyone?

Thanks!
Ryan

I've given them a few times, not often.

I had a piece of vinyl that I bought at a fabric store as a remnant that I used to keep her Xpen on top of. It is about the same size as a tablecloth, so that would work too..if you have an old vinyl table cloth or remnant around.

I put the bone on it and made it clear to Gucci that it STAYS on the vinyl, she really understood that quickly and seemed grateful enough to stay put. She'd leave the bone for awhile and then if I went to go pick it up (assuming she was done) she'd run back for more.lol

Yes, you definately need a special "space" for this.

Ryan, I buy bones in the market. They are the ones used for soup. They only have a bit of meat on the bone. It is mostly the marrow that is insdie the bone. Mine eat them wherever, but you could confine Beamer to an area. Once they are done with them, I don't keep them too long. I'm afraid of bacteria developing on the bones.

I have done it on the back porch or the hardwood floors. Isabelle will totally carry around a bone that ways more than her growling at anyone that gets in the way. It will quickly remind you that your furry little prince is a meat eating monster!

Ain't that the darned TRUTH!!!!!!! My girl is definately a MEAT eating gal, she can eat around any vegetable or starch to make sure she gets every morsel of meat, the bloodier...the better. And, yes.....she will try to run if anyone (but me) approaches her. She'll start to run from me until I firmly use "stay", but she still stays 'ready' to run. lol, its quite funny. If you need a 'dog' reminder, that's a good one.

My husband will not take a meat bone away from the maltese. Dora is more of the runner type but Belle sounds like she will kill you over it. She is all bark well I still have all my fingers left!

oh gosh! LOL! I'd love to see little sweet Belle with a bone! She is SO full of personality, she's like an 'extreme' version of Gucci. Gucci will police other dogs, but not quite to the extent Belle does. She knows better than to growl at me, but the kids get near her w/ a real bone? Forget it, she's a total B*tch. lol, literally.

Kara,
I took her to the HCSC play date and besides policing all the havanese (she didn't move all night when we got home) she kept jumping out of her stroller and trying to break in the fence when I did a game with Dora. She definitely makes up her own mind. I joke that God gave me Dora after he gave me Belle cause he knew I couldn't handle any more but sometimes I am not joking!

I give my guys marrow bones that are found in the freezer section at Whole foods. I also give them raw lamb ribs. They love them and eat the entire lamb bone.

I would also recommend taking a lot of the marrow out. I learned that my first time... lets just say marrow comes out like it goes in... not a fun clean up!
