Gryff's color is changing

Gryff is cream colored with darker ears and a stripe down his back. My friend calls the color toasted marshmallow. Today I noticed individual hairs on his back that are even darker than the toasted marshmallow. I am really excited about this! I'll keep you posted on his color change.

Lincoln's brother also has the coloring you describe. At 2 1/2 years, he still has the darker ears and stripe down his back. I wonder what will happen with the darker hairs you see on Gryff...the color change is fun with the Havs

Ivy, are you seeing just a few random hairs coming out in a new color, or are you seeing a band of color if you part the hair that goes all the way down the spine (or which ever area you part the hair)? You sound like you're describing a few random hairs. I've seen that more in the darker dogs that get a few white or silver hairs and start getting more with time. I'd love to see Gryff's changes as they grow. In the lighter dogs, I usually see more banding of colors. Both are neat to watch!

I love how they change colors, even when you think they are set for a while.

It's weird. The darker color seems to be on the tips of some hairs. It's enough to see it though if you are cuddling.

Gryff must be related to Brady. He has the exact same coloring. He also has some darker brown hairs that pop up here and there. On him, they have never taken over. He does have the darker stripe of gold down his back and his ears. There is also a little brown tipping, but you can't see that unless you are snuggled with him.

Gryff is such a cutie! I love how his ears are darker compared to his body

Lito is black with white markings, but he is getting progressively more white hairs this past year. Now his entire back, the top of his head, and his tail have white hairs intertwined. THe hairs don't come in patches, they are sort of mixed in the way I'd imagine a "Havana brown" coat to be, except in black and white. It is really cute!

Jasper has a few course black hairs mixed into the sable part of his coat. they have not taken over- but interestingly he had some course black hairs behind his ears and the back of his head-- the groomer had to shave him there once and now they have come back soft and gray like his ears. I thought of having him shaved and seeing what color he comes back- but couldn't bring my self to do it. He does seem to be getting more of his color back now too.

Cash has the few white hairs mixed into his coat now too-- In addition to the white paint brush he has always had on his tail. It is a patch right at the tipppy tip of his tail about the size of a pencil and the fur is white as white can be very straight and courser almost like whiskers but not quite as thick.

Ivy, do you have newborn pictures of Gryff? what color was he when he was born?

I've seen this "banding" on Gucci, it is around her eyes and forehead with the gold more apparent on her lower back and tail that it was before. I think lighter dogs have very subtle changes...

Do any of them turn silverish?

Shelby has really lightened up. I wouldn't say silver yet, but a gray color. Kodi is a chamelion. When he is just washed, he is almost white and his gold saddle color really stands out. As he gets dirty, he becomes cream, except for the front chest, that stays white. I have also noticed lots of gold/sable hairs coming in on his back and tail.

I don't know about that Kara. I know black will silver, but I don't know if cream will. Tinky was black & white, but the black silvered, so she is now white with some silver markings. My web site is a little outdated, but on Tinky's page, you can see her progression of colors.

I cut her hair when she was almost 2 years old and lost some of the black tips, so she's even a wee bit lighter now.
