Bed Time

Just wondering what sort of routines you folks have for when it's lights out time for your Havs? At our house we will already be in bed, watching tv and Molly will be at the foot of the bed . As soon as I flip the light on my nightstand off, Molly comes up as my head is settling on my pillow and gives me "good night kisses". For anywhere between twenty seconds to a full minute she cleans my face so well, I don't need to wash it in the morning . What a way to end the day. Mom only gets two quick licks . That's from Molly not me. Dogs truly are man's best friend.

lol, awesome!!

Around here, once the kids are in bed, Tillie naps between my legs on the recliner, belly up typically... I get the stink eye if I need to pee. lol
Around 10 -ish is the last potty run at which time all the cats (3) come around, ready to go into the garage and be fed, so of course they try to rub all over Tillie and she tries to aggravate them... this last potty run sometimes takes 10 minutes. lol

Then she gets a treat and her and I go to bed. I attempt to read in bed while she snorts and digs under the covers. settles down. then comes out and lays between my eyes and my book and gets a massage of sorts.... if my husband dare come in during this time, she is NOT happy and will growl at him! It's OUR time and she KNOWS it! lol
When She has had enough lovin' she settles at the foot of my bed while I read... when I turn the lamp out she jumps down and goes into her crate for the night. My husband usually comes to bed 1-4 hrs after I do and Tillie never makes a peep, even with the crate door open... and she stays in her bed as long as I am in mine... will NOT get up in the morning unless I am.

ha ha ya, well it's not so much a mindful 'routine' it's just what we do. lol

Ya, my husband is an IT guy, so even if he IS home, 90% of the time he is working AT home... lol good thing I have Tillie to keep me company and the kids to keep me busy and on my toes!

What a wonderful thread Dave! I love reading the details of everyone's intimate sleeping routines! As for us, Henry knows it's time for bed when I take my bra off. As soon as the "girls" are released (and I have to report that he watches them quite closely from his perch on top of the bed - sometimes he looks like he's gonna take a bite out of me), and I put on my nightie, he knows I'm climbing into bed with him and he starts humping my arm. That's the start of our play period. Then I start growling and he growls and i shove him across the bed and he grabs my arm and we both growl some more and shove some more and grab some more. I tell him "I'm gonna get you" and pretend to grab him and he throws his toy up in the air in glee. It's quite rambunctious and usually takes about 15 minutes. My husband doesn't even bother to come upstairs til it's over. Finally, when the lights go out and both Richard and I are in sleeping position, Henry flops down as close to my side as he can get, heaves a huge sigh, and all three of us go to sleep. As I've said before, he is a pleasure to sleep with. Even the dog sitter says so! As usual, I'm sure I told you way more than you wanted to know.

I have Henry carry in a toy from the living room to the bedroom. Usually there's a treat for doing so, sometimes not. Then he works on chewing the bone toy until he's tuckered out.

When Brody senses I'm heading for bed he immediately grabs his toy du jour and runs for the bedroom. While I'm getting ready we'll toss his toy around. Then I get in bed. We throw the toy around some until he decides he's not going to be bothered to go get it anymore, and then maybe have a wrestling match. Brody settles at the end of the bed while I watch an episode of something on Netflix and then I read a bit. When he recognizes the pattern of clicks of me turning off my ebook reader he moves up to cuddle with me.

Once I turn out the light, he (far too often) thinks this would be a great time to rape my pillow, right next to my head. This does not amuse me and we have the "humping" argument quite frequently! Once he's decided to stop molesting the pillow he comes and nestles in. Usually he curls into the small of my back. He also will usually paw back the covers so he can be touching me.

Then we go to sleep. At some point during the night I can usually find him sandwiched in among my pillows, usually laying on his back between two pillows.

Kodi is the "little old man" of the group when it comes to bed-time behavior! If Dave and I don't BOTH go up to bed by 9 or so, Kodi starts muttering, whining and pacing to let us know it's past his bed time. When we all go up, he snuggles with us for about a half hour while we read, watch TV or check the Forum on my iPad. . Then he jumps down and walks over to his crate. But he want one of us to get up and SHUT the door of his crate. If we don't he'll start fussing again until we shut him in. What can I say? He loves his crate!!!
