Those Peculiar Funny Little Havs

Hey...

Does anyone have a Hav that does peculiar things???

Here's some examples: One day I was sitting in my family room watching TV when I heard a cupboard door slam in my kitchen (which is directly off of my family room). When I switched my gaze from the T.V to the kitchen, my Hav, Sophie was standing in the center of the floor just staring at me. Well, thinking that I was just hearing things, I continued to watch T.V.

Moments later, I heard the cupboard slam again and I wondered..Did Sophie do that? Well when I said "Sohie, what????", she went over to the cupboard
(floor level of course), stuck her head in the door, pushed it open, then used her head to slam it and came back to the center of the floor and just stared at me...Well this lead me to believe that she was trying to get my attention so I got up and said "DO you want FOOD?"...which caused her to go into a little dance, so I fed her!

Well this behavior not only continued when she was hungry or her water dish was empty..but she refined it!!

On another occasion when I was watching Lord of The Rings, Sophie went into the kitchen and started her door slamming. Well, not wanting to tear myself away from a great scene, I ignored her, which caused the banging to grow louder.

I wondered what she would do if I continued to ignore her, so I did. Well
that caused her to add a growl to her little act. Ignoring her further caused her to bang the door, growl and run over to the entry of the family room!
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

The other thing that Sophie will do is that if she REALLY needs to go out and go potty she will run into the vinyl blinds that are hanging on the family room
door...thus making enough racket to draw my attention. If I ignore her, she adds a growl to that act also and will just continue this until I stop and let her out!

One last thing is that I keep a bag of dog bisquits on my night stand. Each morning when I get up to let both of my Habv's out, (which can be 4am-6am) I give them each a bisquit whne I go back to bed. Well, Sophie has figured out the routine and if she doesn't get her bisquit she will sit on the bed and stare at the package. If I ignore her she will then add a growl to her stare..
If I continue to ignore her she will jump on me and run up and down my body,
grumbling the entire way!!!

What's with THAT?

My Quincy doesn't do anything as cute as your Sophie, but he does have to race us and beat us up the steps! You can be 1/2 way up and he flies by a million miles a minute and beats you to the top--then lays down quick and peeks at ya--like gee--what took you so long?It is as cute as can be.......

Isn't it just amazing how fast they can run???

Sophie got going so fast in our back yard one day that she litterally jumped over the top of my Aussie to keep from crashing into her...no wonder they used these dogs in the circus!

Yes they do seem to have some odd practices. Logan will throw his body onto the sliding glass door when he has to go out. he doesnt make a peep, but you hear , bang, & then scratching as if he is sliding off the door.

Lily will sit by the water dish and boof until we come to give water.
And for food, she sits in a corner(same one every day) and will bark one bark in like 5 minute intervals.

They are really such unique animals!

That is too funny, Riley has me trained as well except he just goes to the kitchen and grabs the food or water bowl and flings it across the room making a loud bang and if that does not get my attention then he will bring the bowl into the living room and throw it at me. My DH is trained just as well, he loves ice cream and usually will have a bowl every night around 8:00. Riley never lets him forget when its time for ice cream, he will jump on the couch and start making little noises at him. If DH ignores him he will then get on DHs chest and whack him in the face with his paw. These guys are so smart and know how to get our attention LOL.

Sometimes I think my Biscuit isn't that bright. Because he does almost none of the clever behaviors I've heard mentioned on this Forum. He is an incredibly sweet, patient dog who goes with the flow. If the food comes, fine. If not, fine. But he is well-mannered and learns quickly, when trained. I've been around other Havs and they seem hyper compared to him. He is not without his antics, however. He has a St. Vitus dance he does every morning around Jesse, the cat, that has us falling on the floor laughing. It's interesting, though, to hear all these stories!! And, I forgot, WELCOME, to the forum !!

OH, that is funny, girls!!!

Come to think of it, when I dog sit for my friend's Hav, he WILL NOT drink out of the water dish until I walk over, emtpy it and fill it with fresh water!!! If I don't he will just sit in front of it and stare down at the dish until I do!.....
