Unhappy Arrgh...this darn rain and I am sick

It has been raining since morning and I am running a fever and having chills. The furkids have been sleeping with me this entire time. They have been just sweet darlings. Benji doesn't leave my side at all and Lizzie plays near by when she wakes up. Lizzie has used the piddle pad on the outdoor ex-pen to piddle, but as always, Benji has been holding his business for hours due to cold and rain. I took him to a drier spot in the yard but it's a no go. He refuses to use the piddle pad on the outdoor ex-pen. Benji is 1 year old and used to holding.

I am getting chills again after going out. This is the first time that I have been sick and have furbabies with me. Do you think it is healthy for Benji to hold for so long?

Thanks!

Best, Poornima

So sorry you are so sick. I hate feeling like that.

Bella holds it for hours! She is only 6lbs and has been known to hold it over 14 hours, if it's raining. She would rather burst then go in the rain. When she is ready to explode, she eventually goes out.

I don't know if it's bad for them though.

Logani will pee anywhere if we dont take him out, but Lexi would probably hold it for 24 hours. I think it just depends on the pup. I am sure that when you are feeling bad, it is so nice to have them by your side. I remember when I had surgery last year and was bedridden fo 1 1/2 weeks, my girls never left my side! What a great feeling it is!! Hope you feel better soon.

Oh, Poornima....I feel your pain. Literally!

I woke up at 5 am yesterday morning puking with a fever and headache! I pretty much stayed in bed until 2pm, getting up a few times to take Gucci out or feed her.

She even had breakfast 3 hours LATE yesterday, bless my sweet daughter for taking over cooking the chicken for her because I was seriously DYING when I put in the frying pan...

Like your babies, she's been SUPER good and just stayed in bed with me and let me rest, not bothering me to eat, play or go potty..just going with the flow, I love that about her.

Today, has been off and on fever chills/sweating...and I have been cheating a bit taking her out and standing at the door, she'll run out and go and I'll call her back in for treats (I haven't been treating for potty in months) But she'll come right back and stay in my view. I am just SO sensitive to the cold weather, fevers do that.

Something is definately going around...I probably shouldn't have braved the Golden Grahams I just ate because I think its comin' back up (ugh!)

But to answer your question, don't feel guilty! I think they *can* hold it longer if they need to. I know Gucci has been out less, even though I have the pads out, she is still waiting to go outside.

I hope you feel better! I'd send you some healing vibes, but I am not in possession of those at the moment! lol.

Thanks, Kara and all of you caring pals! Kara, I am so sorry to hear that you are so sick. Hope you feel better soon. Take care.

Tylenol appears to have started working for me. Little Piggie Lizzie has been rearing to go out to play in the mud and rain. She is an exact opposite to Benji when it comes to rain, cold and mud. He watches her from the outdoor ex-pen while she romps in the lawn and teases him to catch her.

Poornima,

I have been alternating the Tylenol and Motrin every few hours and it is helping control the fever during the day anyway! It spikes up in the middle of the night, but hopefully it'll break soon, for BOTH of us.

I totally understand how hard it is to go stand outside with the chills in 30 degree weather Is anyone there to help you?

I'm off to bed here soon, thanks for the well wishes! You too!

Well, I don't have any help (we don't have any family here) but I am used to it. It's just a little harder when it comes to the furbabies and managing their routine and needs when one is sick. But these two have been so sweet, I am just amazed. Take care. Get well soon.

Best,
Poornima

Poornima, Get Well Soon!! Ogh! I hate the rain and it's certainly NO time to be down sick with chills and fever. Most likely Benji will go when he absolutely has to. Just keep an eye out for a break in the rain. Maybe he will change his ways too. Rufus was holding it during those first few rains but has now decided he WILL go into the rain to potty. He still walks on the bricks around to the far side of the yard when he has to poo, but he does finally step into the grass to go.
