is he territorial?

my neighbors just got a puppy, my dog isn't too thrilled with this. he can see him thru the window. he actually peed on the floor by his pillow when we were out. the pillow is up against the window that overlooks the neighbors deck which is where he is training him to do his business. is he marking his territory? any suggestions? i could close the blinds which seems obvious but then he can't look outside while i am gone.

I am not well versed on dog behavior, so take this for what it is worth.

Dogs behind fences (ex-pens or yard fences) or on leashes do tend to act out more, so it is possible that Django is acting out to show the other dog that he's the boss. I guess you could close the blinds to find out. ??? If the urinating is new, then it would be a likely assumption to make.

I find that very interesting and I wonder why they act out? The blinds may do it until he gets used to the idea of a dog next door. I don't have a backyard, so I don't have that issue, but the leash issue,,, yeah

Good luck with that, and who knows maybe after they make friends Django won't do that anymore.

I am not an expert on dog behavior either but I would consider letting them meet and work out their dominance issues and then move on. What breed/sex of puppy is the neighbor. How is your dog with other dogs?

my dog was great with other dogs until a bulldog snapped at him. he barks like mad at other dogs, an isuse we are working on. he's very protective of our neighbor which might be part of theproblem. the puppy is a cockapoo. i think i will take time and hopefully they will become friends, we have talked about dog sitting for each other once baxter is housetrained. i'll try the blinds first and see how it goes.

Awww, Poor Django. That is exactly what happened with Oreo! He barks his fool head off at other dogs, on leash but he is fearful of them. He reacts each and every time. Now in Oreo's case he got pawed, snapped and bowled over by THREE different GSD's on three seperate occasions. Now he just simply doesn't trust any dog that is bigger than him. Well, that is the way he acts on leash. Off leash he is so different! He may avoid a bit until he makes friends and then he is fine.... Beats me
