Doing the business in the snow

I made a path in the snow for Gryff so he won't sink up to his belly every time he goes out to potty. However, he still wants to venture into the vast arctic a.k.a. my front yard. He was climbing up the snow bank left by the plow, sinking into the deep wet snow, etc. He finally did go poop in the path I made for him. By then, he was covered in Havanese Snow Balls. Then 20 minutes standing in the tub while I blow dried the ice off his legs and now he's still damp.

Tomorrow I should be getting his all over snow suit which I am hoping will help. It's a real drag putting on all this gear every time he goes out.

Any suggestions?

My hubby snowblows the "poop grounds" for Sam to go. About a 6 ft square. The only other option I can think of is to take him out on a leash so he can't play. I know that's no fun.

I always take him on a leash, but he leads me around the yard until he finds a suitable place to go. What makes one spot more desirable than another is totally beyond me.

we snowblow a 10 x 10 foot area, and the first day of snow, they usually go there, but after that, the fun is gone, and feel the need to climb into the snow and find the "perfect" place to go. Short of keeping them on a leash, there is no avoiding that they want to be IN the snow, no matter what they are doing!!

We clear a path on the deck so they can get down to the grass. If it is deep snow, we will clear out an area so they can use the grass.

When we got Kodi two years ago, we had a big snowstorm. We cleared an area about 4' x 4' and it was so cute to watch this little 3.5 lb furball run around trying to do his business. It was like he was in a little fort and he couldn't jump over the sides.

They certainly don't tell you about this problem in the Havanese books I've bought...or any of the dog books I bought before getting one!

Havee's having a hard time finding his spot to do his business It took him 1 1/2 hours this morning before he would pee. Every timewe came back inside, having been unsuccessful, he moaned to go out

My hubby plowed out an area in the yard, we give him alot of time, etc. He's just driving us nuts!

It's going to be a long winter for us if it snows alot!

Jillee likes the snow and will chase after her big sister Lizzie....they have a lot fun together out there....we will have to limit her this time because I do not want her to get her stiches really wet...we shall see it just depends on how much snow we get here!!!!
