Unhappy Beamer at the groomers

I took little Beamer over to our vets office this morning to be groomed. (the grooming service works out of the vets office)

As usual, he was alittle aprehensive about going into the office but was ok, and was happy to see the vet techs and admins, but once the groomer came out............ He almost climbed up my body and flew over me.. i like caught him in mid flight?! lol

soooooooo???????? I'm assuming he does not like this woman very much??? I mean we have not been there for 1 month now, and he still remembers something bad about this woman?? I left kind of feeling bad for him??? hmmmmmmmmm

I hope his cut turns out nice! (i'll post pics later.......)

Aww, poor baby. With that kind of reaction you might want to consider taking him someplace else next time. I can't wait to see the photo of your beautifully groomed boy.

It might also just be the situation. Isabelle hates to be groomed, she runs from me when I put on the grooming coat or carry out the dryer. When I used to take her to the groomer, she also freaked out. I know the groomer personally so know it was nothing bad. I could tell Dora didn't like it but she did try to run the other way like Belle. Dora hates the loud noise of blow dryers and when we are at shows, she wants to stay as far away from them as possible!

Ryan,
How does Beamer react when you bathe and brush him? If he totally hates the grooming process it might not be the "groomer" he hates as much as what her presence means (ie: bathing, brushing, nail clipping, dealing with mats, etc.) On the other hand if he's pretty good about baths, maybe his reaction means that he does associate something uncomfortable about the groomer. I'd try somewhere else next time just to gauge his reaction.
In the meantime, I can't wait to see photos of the newly groomed Beamer.

Beamer is pretty good at taking baths. He is also ok with the blowdryer now, but does not like to be brushed while the blowdryer is on. He is becoming better at being brushed while dry.. (probably thanks to Helen.. hehe)

As soon as he saw the woman, he almost jumped over me.. like 'Free Willy' it was pretty funny..

Ryan,

Maybe you should pop in on the groomer unannounced. Is there an area where you can watch from without distracting the dogs?

Ryan,

Diane said exactly what I was going to say. I would go and show up unannounced and watch how she interacts with Beamer. It doesn't sound normal to me. When my clients come in the owners can't believe how happy their dogs are to see us there are a few of them who actually drag their owners in. Sure we have a couple who will shake at first when they come in, but those are usually our new ones that are either first time in or have only been in a couple of times and are still getting used to us.

I will be waiting for

Ryan, that really does not sound very normal. Kubrick after his neuter is now scared to death of going into the vet's office. He is traumatized and thinks that I will leave him in there again and that he will go through all the neuter process again (haha fat chance). So, perhaps something happened with the groomer? I would also walk in early and see if you can catch Beamer with the groomer to see how she handles him.

Sissy goes to the groomers often. It was a husband wife team. The husband came early did the bathing and then the wife did the grooming.

Sissy loved the husband and didn't seem to mind too much when I left her but then he had to quit - he was going to medical school. Sissy did not want to go and when she saw the fence line that went to the building she would get under the seat. I knew the lady was not real outgoing and friendly but I knew Sissy doesn't really like her. She would shake when I was taking her in the car.

So I switched to a woman that was in with a vet and now has opened up on her own - many people have recommended her. I took Sissy and while I was paying Sissy went and kissed her by. That made me feel really good about the switch.
