Taste of the Wild High Prarie Canine Formula Dry Dog Food

Audrey finished her first bag of this - which she did fine on. I ordered a second bag of this and she sniffs it like something is a little off and doesn't hungrily scarf it down like she used to. This happened when we started to use the new bag. I don't think the food should differ from bag to bag... should it be the same due to quality control? I checked the expiration date on the bag and it looks fine... could something be wrong with the food?

Sometimes bags of kibble are bad. The fats turn rancid. Does it smell or look different than the last bag? It might just be best to return it. Diamond Foods had a huge recall that included Taste of the Wild a couple years ago. They handled it very poorly. Not notifying the public promptly. My sister's dog became quite ill from the food. Dog's sense of smell is so much stronger than ours. If she isn't wanting the food there could be something wrong with it. Then again these little guys are kind of picky so it is hard to tell.

I would take it back to the store and exchange it for a new bag. They shouldn't give you a hard time about it, especially with all the recalls on all the different foods going around. The local store I shop at will take back food if the beasties hate it so I am sure yours will take it if it smells off. Give them a call and explain that it smells weird and she won't eat it.

TTFN,
Pam

I had a similar problem with Charlie. started him on Eukanuba puppy as recommended by the vet - Charlie didn't love this but would eat it most of the time. Read up about food and immediately switched to Artemis. First bag he would almost dive into the bowl. So I ordered another 2 bags. Now he will only eat it if it has a little something with it eg cottage cheese, grated cheese. Otherwise I crush it and add a bit of hot water and then he will eat it. So I think he's just being picky.

Have you tried adding a little teaspoon of eg yoghurt or cottage cheese? Might make a difference.

Sounds like a bad bag or maybe it just tastes a little different. The meat used for the next round could come from a different source, or taste different depending on time of year butchered, the animals' diet, etc. I switch flavors (same brand) when I'm getting low and gradually mix in the new flavor for a week or two until the old flavor is gone. Haven't noticed any reluctance to eat the blend.
