Revolution

Hi

Was wondering if anyone used Revolution for fleas/ticks/heart worm?

Any thoughts / recommendations / dislikes?

Thanks

Keeper had a reaction to it, and almost died. We had to shove food down his throat for weeks, because he had tremors so hard he couldn't find the co-ordination to eat. This was some years ago, and he's fine now, but we would never use it again.

It has a list of possible symptoms. He had every one of them except for seizure and death.

We have horrible things called Paralysis Ticks over here so I've just started using Frontline every two weeks. Having heard about so many dogs dying after a few days this is one area where I don't dare be cautious. I would use Advantix except that it's very toxic to cats.

Django has been on revolution since he was a puppy, he's 9 1/2 now. No problems. We switched to it when we found out he had a beef allergy and I guess alot of these flea/tic meds have some type of beef product. Who knew?! It is a concern especially with his Addisons but so far so good.

Julie has been on Revolution since she was a puppy and is now three. No side effects, but scary reading Tom's post.

Dr. Dodds said yesterday (or maybe it was the day before) to avoid any products with spinosad (which is what is in Revolution) with any dog that has any neurological problems is bad news. The trouble is, how do you KNOW if your dog might develop a neurologicL problem ahead of time? I stay away from those drugs.

BTW, if I am remembering correctly, I looked spinosad up at one point and found that it is an insecticide that specifically attacks the central nervous system of inertebrates. ...but fish are also HIGHLY sensitive to it, so it's not JUST invertebrates.

Karen, I know spinosid (which is an ingredient in Trifexis) is what is in comfortis, but I didn't think it was in revolution. I did check out the revolution site and it doesn't seem to contain spinosid. This is what I found on their website....

REVOLUTION® - Single dose tubes
Selamectin formulation
Avermectin/milbemycin derivative
Antiparasitic (veterinary); endectocide
Clear, yellow to colorless liquid, with a slight adherent texture; characteristic alcohol odor packaged in 2 mL or less single dose tubes

Oh, OK. i must have mis-remembered. Knew for sure that it was Simosid that she warned against, but obviously I got the brands wrong!
