heartguard and frontline

does anyone out there use heartguard for heartworm and frontline for fl/ticks? i use to use revolution but didn't fell the need to overmedicate my dog when i live in a cold climate and there are no ticks and fleas here during that time. i'd love to hear what others do. i just started the frontline because we are heading down to florida for 10 days.

I use Interceptor for heartworm and Frontline for fleas/ticks. They both work well for me (I stopped using the Frontline this month as it's too cold here for fleas). There have been some concern over using Frontline as supposedly it has stopped working, but I haven't noticed a single flea on Kubrick yet.

I use Interceptor and I have used a herbal remedy during the flea season that one of the breeders recommended to ward off fleas and ticks. I never take my dogs to dog parks or don't let them interact with other dogs on the walk too closely. Also, my breeder recommended a drop of Dawn dishwashing liquid once in while in their bath water. I was surprised to find that my groomer uses it too. The smell of Dawn repels fleas and ticks.

Best, Poornima

Poornima - which herbal remedy do you use?

I've used Forntline for quite a few years (only during the flea season) and this fall noticed that it didn't work in killing fleas on my dogs. I actually returned the partially used packages and the store replaced it, but still....

I have been using Revolution, but I forgot to give it to Gryff this past month. Being that it is currently 13 degrees outside, I don't think it matters much right now.

I've used both of those for many years. We live in an area of the country that doesn't typically stay cold consistently through the winter so we use Heartguard year round and the Frontline during warm weather. Our dog never had fleas.

We use Heartguard and Frontline each month.

Question...Do the people in the tri state area skip the frontline for the colder months? Sometimes we get an odd warm spell here and there in the winter which makes me wonder if I shouldn't skip any months.

What do all of you do?

Jan, I was told by my vet to have his last Frontline treatment be in December (so it lasts through the month) unless the temperature stays in the 50s. As the temps have been steady in the 30s and 40s I have stopped Kubrick's Frontline. He advised me to start back up in March.

The Interceptor (for heartworm) I use year-round.

WE use Heartguard andfor fleas I am just very careful and they are really not exposed to a lot of dogs .
Sometimes I worry about them getting them from the deer that roam at home . Right now down here it is just too cold for fleas and we avoid local doggie parks .
I keep Dawn on hand just in case as well .. So far so good ..
