Havanese or Terrier?

Hi all - just doing my nightly rescue website crawl - (we are looking to add another dog to our family and were thinking of going the rescue route) Anyway there is a rescue org. here in the Bay Area that has a little guy that looks an awful lot like a Hav to me. Please click on the the link below and see what you think. They have him listed as "Terrier Mix" but hmmm......

Looks like he has some havanese in him....I think I see it in the eyes. He has had a hair cut, maybe that is why they say Terrier. It does say something about wanting to be by himself, makes me wonder if he would do good with another dog?

I have owned a cairn and the coat is completely different--not what you could tell just by looks, but feel. It is not as soft, but more wirey. It looks like it might be a terrier coat.

He is very cute. Could you go meet him? Well, maybe it is better to say can you go meet him and be objective (that is my issue!) Maybe take a ball, etc. I would do that for any rescue I was thinking about adopting. I went to pick a havanese from a shelter and the shelter was so busy, they handed her to me and walked away. So I was able to see her reaction, when other dogs came thru, people walked by, etc. In a 15 min period, it really showed me the dogs personality and I would recommend doing that if you could.

I would bet that is a Tebetan Terrier. They look a lot like Havanese but are taller (and obviously bigger overall). You probably even saw some at the show last weekend.

I won't hotlink to their photos, but I'll post links to several sites so you can go see the similarities.

http://www.ttc-cz.com/de/ - a Tibetan Terrier Club site (Czech?)

http://billmitchell.com/_wsn/page2.html - a pet TT with similar markings to Debbie's sam

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/tibetanterrier.htm - More info & pix over at dogbreedinfo.com

TTs have a completely different personality than Havs. They are often called "the cat of the dog world" because they like to be independent. They can also be quite territorial. I have a friend that is a TT breeder and we laugh at how similar our dogs looks, but how different they are inside.

Well, I'm no expert so I'm not going to take a guess. Other then he's sooooo cute!!! I'm also looking for a rescue, and he'd be in my car in minutes
He actually reminds me of Cooper quite a bit, my havanese.

I don't have an opinion on breed but he sure is cute. However, I'd be a little worried about the "learning to like other dogs" and "likes to be alone". I think Amanda has a great idea but only you know if you can be objective (my problem too)

Gee those Tibetan terriers are cute. They do look a lot like Havanese. That dog definitely is a cutie.

He is really cute. He resembles a Hav but I think the Tibetan is a better guess. The texture of his coat looks different from a Hav's. But perhaps he just needs a grooming. I think he sounds great. Although he could be a Hav. Aren't Tibetan's larger? He's the right weight for a big Hav boy.
I'm vacillating!!

and HEATH-Y, TOO !
