Question Dry Heaves

Beamer has been getting the 'dry heaves' every now and then over the last couple weeks. As often as once a day..or every other day...
This last for a maybe 10-20 seconds...

Sometimes it happens when we come inside from potty or a walk.??

Any idea what tghis would be from?

Thanks
Ryan

Ryan~ Are you sure it's dry heaves and not reverse sneezing? My son's Peke will reverse sneeze sometimes when she comes in from being outside. I have no idea why, though.

Ryan, there is a thread on here somewhere about the reverse sneeze - I think squirts Mom has that problem with Squirt and she posted a video of it. Look thru the treads & I am sure you will find it.

Laurie's right, Ryan. There's also a video of a greyhound (I think) having a reverse sneezing attack.

I was just coming to post the link to the reverse sneezing info, but I see you found it. A lot of Havanese get it when they get excited, upset or stressed. We see it happen in the show ring when a dog is pulling too hard on their lead too.

Kubrick will sometimes get it for absolutely no reason. He will be lying down and just start heaving like he can't breathe. It's scary as all heck. I just put my hand over his nose and hold it there and it stops. He always looks at me like "what the heck was THAT?" afterwards. I think it's because he knows he will get lots of loving from me as I feel sorry for him, LOL. I know it's not hurting him, but boy does it sound like it is!

Also, just wanted to add that it's probably from the ice. Kubrick used to get it all the time after drinking water really fast. Now that I got a water bottle on a holder, it makes him slow down since not a lot of water comes out at once. So I haven't heard him reverse sneeze in a good while.

Molly reverse-sneezes occasionally. The first time it happened, I thought it was kennel-cough because she had been boarded. Took her to the vet...he also said it's common with smaller breeds. None of my other (larger pound rescues) had ever done that.

When Molly starts the "honkering" (our made up, non-clinical word!), I just stroke her and try to relax her because she does seem to be confused about it.
