Sleeping arrangements - round 2

On 08/06/12 I started a thread called Sleeping Arrangements. This is what I first posted:
Kallie has woke up every night since we got her for a 3 or 4:00 AM potty. Back into her crate & she would sleep for maybe another hour. Sat after her 3:30 AM potty, I just put her in bed with us instead of back into her crate. She slept til 8:00AM!!!! We were both shocked. She was extremely good on Sunday, very mellow, but still plenty of playing time. So last night I went to bed @ 10:00 & put her in bed w/me. DH came to bed @ 11:00, said he got a couple of kisses from her, then she went right back to sleep. He said @ 5:00 AM this morning she was still in a deep sleep & he had to wake her up to take her out. I felt like a new person this morning when I got up, without having to get up & take her out in the middle of the night.

I want to keep her "crate friendly" but this sleeping all night sure is nice. Have any of you found that their puppy sleeps better in your bed? Or has this just been a fluke?

So here it is 08/15/13, and I have exactly the same thing going on with Abby! Can't I ever learn?? Kallie sleeps in bed with us beautifully. I have Abby in a crate beside the bed. She wakes up several times each night, I stick my fingers in the crate & she quiets down. But @ 3:30 AM, her internal alarm goes off & the barking begins. I take her out to potty (she always pees & poops), then back into her crate (no talking, lights, etc). But she WILL NOT settle back down. Bark, bark, bark. This morning I went ahead & fed her, thinking maybe that's what her issue is - starving. Well, guess what - she's ready to play. This getting up @ 3:30 every morning is killing me! Rambling now from lack of sleep - but my question now is have you experienced putting the 2nd Hav in bed with you (13 wks old) and how did it go? Is there a chance Abby will settle down & sleep all night? Or am I delusional at this point?

Max has slept with us since his was 4 months old.
The first night we had Bessie home she was in a crate crying
so we just put her on the bed with us and the rest is history.
Neither of them have ever peed on the bed. We love them sleeping with us.

That's encouraging! I think Abby will sleep better with Kallie, both in our bed. But I'm not sure we we will! I'm going to try it tonight. I just hope they don't want to play all night. I'm also going to try feeding Abby later this evening. Have been feeding her around 5:30, but maybe that's why she was so hungry this morning @ 3:30. Think I'll hold her off eating til around 7:30.

Max didn't have any problem with Bessie being in the bed too?

We got our Hav at 11 1/2 weeks old and from 12 1/2 weeks old he has slept with us with no problem at all. At first we were worried about "flipping him off the bed" being that he was so lightweight, but thankfully, that never happened. If I got another one, I think I would allow bed sleeping as soon as the crate was dry for at least 6 hours at a stretch.

No issues w/her soiling her crate. Hasn't done that at all. Wakes me up to go out to potty. Guess I should be ecstatic with that alone!

Sheldon sleeps in a crate elevated next to the bed. He turns 16 wks on Saturday, and I was thinking of celebrating the event by foregoing with the crate for the first time.

Tammy, they get along great. Abby is Kallie's little shadow. If Kallie wants to be left alone, she jumps up on the couch or something (which is not very often). Then Abby reminds me of Tigger - boinging on her hind legs to get up on the couch too!

Here are the BFF's

I didn't last 1 night with the crying in the crate. yes I'm a failed crate trainer.

My little guy never had an accident in bed. He would jump off the bed if he had to go, and I'm a light sleeper, so it worked out. No issues with him sleeping with me on my bed. when he grew up though, like 1 yr old, he doesn't sleep on the bed anymore. he prefers his own spot on his own doggie bed.

Pat, love the picture of the two BFFs. They look so cute together peering out the railing. Nice feeling to have them get along so well and right from the start. Looks like Abby adores Kallie.
