Is this blowing coat?

My 16 month hav just had to have his coat shaved. I felt like such a failure as I have been trying so hard to keep up with his coat. But..... I look at it as a chance to start over. Today when I was combing his ears and little bobblehead I noticed lots of fluff in the comb. I'm wondering if this is the dreaded blowing coat phase and if so if anyone has any advice to better deal with it?

16 months is a little late to START blowing coat, (that's probably what got him so matted that you needed to shave him to start with) but he could be blowing again... many do it more than once. That said, the subsequent times it is usually less severe, and easier to keep up with. Jut make sure you get ALL mats out COMPLETELY each day.

Tim is in a puppy cut, I never went through the blowing coat phase thankfully. He'll be two in October and I have noticed recently that I'm pulling more fluff out of the comb, he's not really matted but I find especially around his ears and chin/neck area I'm spending more time then usual. I start out with a wood pin brush to loosen things up and then my CC butter comb afterwards and it hasn't been too big a deal. I have heard however from some members that they can blow coat more then once. I fantasize about Tim in a long coat but I think it would be a disaster, for me, but a girl can dream.

Thinking the fluff us the blowing coat as the breed does not shed per se. What do you all think? We use the pin brush and the CC buttercomb as well.
