We have a big boy!

Hi all

We were just wondering what the average weight and size is for a Havvy?

We have heard some say they can weigh up to 8.5 kgs

Our boy is 8 months old and weighs 9.2 Kgs and is perfect height and weight according to our vet, not to lean and not fat at all. He is a big boy!

His father is a big boy also so we were just wondering if anyone else out there have some big boy Havvy's?

We love him to bits and his name is Barney! We are just wondering will he grow anymore as he is only 8.5 months old?

Thanks for any feedback

Hi Barney,

Good to hear from another Aussie - where abouts are you?

Our boy Charlie is just turned 6 months and weighs 4.4kgs - our vet also says this is spot on for his age. From what I've read and with examples on this forum, it's clear that there is quite a wide range when it comes to weight. But by the sound of it your boy is on the big size - that's nearly 20lbs in American speak!

Wow, that's big! In lbs. its 20. Our pup is big too and is 4 months old and 15.5 lbs (7 kgs) It doesn't seem he'll grow anymore, as big as he is already, at 8.5 months old.

I'd be VERY surprised if a 4 month old puppy was full grown.

I think Chester is going to be one big boy! We should start a guess. He's 8 mo and is 15 lbs. I'm going to guess 20 lbs maybe bigger. I think they stop growing at about a year then they fill out. Zoey gained a few from age one to two. She was about 3.5 at ten weeks and is about 13 lbs now. Age 2 1/2

Maddie at 5mo old

I think Chester is only 4 months. (Right, Ruth?) He is not my dog, but his birthday is only one day off from my Griffin.
Griffin is right at 8 pounds, so almost half his size!!! (and I don't think Griffin is tiny for his age...)
I have a big girl, Ginny, who is 15 months and 18 pounds.
I guess 22 pounds for Mr. Chester.

Mikey's big too. He's 18 lbs at 7 months. I thought he'd only put on a couple more pounds but I could be wrong. Sounds like maybe he will be over 20 lbs if they fill out after a year. At least he's not gained any for a little over a month now

I just had Sheldon in to the vet for his 16 week visit. He weighed exactly 7 lbs.

I asked the vet to predict his adult size. I was curious because, while his Mom weighed 15 lbs, his Dad was only 6 lbs. I've never seen a Hav that small.

Anyway, the vet said that with larger breed dogs, a rule of thumb was to double their 4-month weight. However, with smaller breeds, they've had a larger proportion of their growth behind them. She predicted a final weight of 12 lbs for my boy.

I don't think they HAVE to "fill out" (weight-wise) over a year. Kodi weighed 16.5 lbs at 10 months. He's 4 now, and still weighs the same.

Yeah, if we go with double the 4 month weight for Chester, we'll scare ruth to death! She'll be buying him a saddle! I'm betting he's going to be one of those 20-ish lb Havs. I've NEVER heard of one making it to 30 lbs.
