Picking a name...

Just read the Thread about suggestions for puppy names.

How did you choose the name(s) for your puppies?

Just curious...

Well??? Shouldn't YOU go first?? LOL! I want to hear your story!
Is it toooo obvious that I have a Scottish theme going on?? I know they're from Cuba, but I get such a feel for my Scottish roots with these beauties (who knows why?). I took one look at my lovies and their names came right to me. Their breeder had other names for them which were OK, but not "right" for us.

Smile I chose Molly's name...

...before I even saw her!

When I met my first Havanese (unfortunately, the little sweetie was being sold in a pet shop and there was some concern about some health issues!), I SO fell in love with the breed and the very sweet disposition.

So, on the way home, I decided that we would definitely bring a Hav puppy home, that we would find a wonderful breeder, that our pup would be a female, and that "Molly" just fit in with our two prior dogs ("Bonnie" and "Daisy").

After thorough research and communication, we struck up a real nice connection with the breeder...and the litter was due in a matter of weeks. We had never "chosen" a pup before...they had all been pound-puppies and they had chosen us.

But when the first-born pictures were posted on the web-site, both my hub and I knew that THAT was our Molly (she was tagged "Noreen" by the breeder, but once everything was set, everyone called her "Molly" so she knew her name when we brought her home at 3 months old.)

It's an unremarkable story, but the thing that I found interesting was although the breeder had the pup tagged "Noreen" on the web-site, THAT actually had been a typo error...her tag was really supposed to be "Maureen"...MY name! But when they discovered the error, it was easier to just leave it.

And Molly was actually their "unexpected" puppy...the sonogram showed 6 puppies all through the gestation. Once the puppies were born, the vet was tending to the mommy, when all of a sudden, she yelped! And out came our Molly!

So, there you go. We loved Molly before we knew her!

Oh, I love that story about Molly being a surprise. She wasn't really a surprise, just meant to be yours.

Kodi was named Kodiak by the breeder. So, we just shortened it to Kodi and liked it. His mom's name is Alaska, ands siblings named Tundra (she was his twin, but bigger), Aurora, and McKinley (who is now Minnie because she was the smallest).

Shelby was supposed to be Cassie, but she didn't like that name. Her sire's name is Shelby, she liked that name, so it stuck.

Ah, neat story about Molly.

Daisy was Annie for about 3, 4 wks. This was after making a huge list, and ruling things out. Then one of the kids decided Daisy was better. I just went with it. Kind of hate it now, though. Just cause it's kind of trendy for little pups. But it was better then what the 4 yr old wanted to name her..."fluffy turtle bottom"

Cooper was named in just a day. It was a name my friend was going to name a boy, had she had another. We'd had previous talks about how her boys Chance and Gunner always turned up to be dog names. Soooo..I thought I'd name my dog after her other fav. boy name. Just to razz her a bit, lol.
The kids wanted to name him, Nacho

I really want a girl dog next time, but I think it's for the wrong reasons. I just wanna name someone, or something Lola (also trendy, i know. but i love it)

Tritia, Daisy, Cooper, and Bodie.
