Responding to Old Posts

I'm starting this new thread in response to Lalla's comment about opening an old thread...

I know it would really help to read the date, though, and sorry I was daft enough not to bother! Lesson learnt....
After about a year and a half on here I'm still learning the ins and outs of using these forums, but here's one way it could go. Lalla, I don't think it's a felony, just that in many cases the original poster and early follow up people will no longer be reading. I agree that most of the old posts contain a wealth of information, and are well worth repeating. However, I'm thinking that maybe a better way to respond or raise the topic again might be to start a new thread, and if you like to quote the OP as I have here. People revive old topics all the time, and most things bear repeating, over and over again, even for people who have heard it all before. I think for some things it makes more sense than others, and it would be fine to just jump on to the original post, but if it's about someone looking for a breeder or a lost dog 3 years ago (except in the unlikely case that you've actually found the dog), it probably doesn't make much sense to respond. Anway...don't worry about it.
