off to the Canadian Havanese Speciaty this weekend!

I'm off this weekend to watch the Canadian Havanese Specialty. We're competing in Obedience and Rally this weekend, but unfortunately there are no obedience events as part of the specialty, but it's happening at the same venue so hopefully i'll be able to watch the conformation dogs compete. I'm giving Gemma a good bath and groom tonight so she'll look her best next to all the pretty show dogs.

Is anyone from the forum going to be there? I'd love to meet some people in person!

enjoy and good luck. Look for Nathan, from Talemaker Havanese. He produces Havanese Breed Magazine, and competes .

I would love it if Gemma got her CD this weekend but it might be too much to expect from here! I'll look for Nathan Dave. It looks like there are almost 30 havanese entered in conformation. It will be fun too see so many Havs in one place!

The trip started off badly yesterday, i was late leaving (work stuff), then had to drive 30 minutesin the opposite direction from Halifax to drop Ruby the labradoodle off with my trainer who is dogsitting for the weekend, then I was off. I stopped for a bathroom break/gas stop midway. When I got back in the car I discovered that Gemma had gotten into my bag, found a tuperware container full of her "jackpot" treats (cooked chicken) and ate the entire thing. She had a swollen sore tummy all night!

Well, today at the trial things started off better. I have never seen so many havanese. She got her first qualifying score ever in Novice obedience, and had a great performance in Rally. Then we went to watch the beautiful Havanese in conformation. At lunch, i witnessed the results of Gemma's indescretions for the day before, massive diarrhea and a big mess in her coat. After that she was terrible. she wouldn't heal and I could tell she wasn't feeling well. She didn't qualify, and I pulled her from Rally.

We won the prize for top Havanese in obedience at the specialty (well, we were the only ones and i think they jsut gave us a prize for showing up). Because of the diarrhea accident I had to leave early and couldn't stay for the presentations or for the "parade of havanese" that I was invited to take part in.

Hopefully tomorrow we will do well in the obedience ring as well. Love seeing all the Havs and meeting some wonderful new people from Canada and the US.

Congratulations Gemma and Tuss. Glad she was able to score in the novice obedience and did well in rally before her upset tummy took over. Hopefully things will be better for you two tomorrow. Enjoy the specialty. Is anyone else from the forum there?

Congratulations on the good parts! Tomorrow should be a better day now that she's done with her "treat explosion"! We'll be crossing our fingers for you!!!

Back home after a great weekend! Gemma did great in Rally. She already got her title last month, so we were doing Rally just for fun (she's not quite ready to move up to Advanced). She got a first place and two second places in Rally. In obedience she got 1 qualifying score and almost got 2 more (she laid down in the long sit stay with just 5 seconds left, which she has never ever done before). Her healing was much much better than it ever was before and I was really pleased with her performance overall. We met some great people and saw some amazing Havanese. I got to talk to the "show people" and got some great advice on my dogs coat and how to care for it.

Here is a photo with her with all her ribbons and swag from the weekend!
