Dirty hair around mouth/staining

Hi all

Our Havvy boy is a parti colour black and white and is now 9 month sold and still has some staining around the mouth where his fur is white. We use angel eyes, but it does not seem to make a huge difference.

Has anyone else had this problem and found any solutions that do work, or will it fade as he gets even older. It is primarily just around his mouth only.

It's not terrible, but I have seen a lot of havvy's on here who don't seem to suffer from it. I have read using distilled water can help. And possibly using a water bottle. Is it safe to use distilled water. I had read somewhere it might not be good for them long term and can cause potassium deficiency and heart problems, but I am not sure if there is any solid proof.

Perhaps some havvy's just have staining and we have to live with it!

Any feedback welcome

Many thanks

I switched Beau to distilled water and -- although it took a month or more -- he now has very little staining! The change is subtle at first and it may seem like it's not working, but, hang in there. All of a sudden, you will notice that the staining is gone!! I know many people who have used distilled (or purified) water for years without any health issues at all.

I think purified or bottled water is fine. Personally, I wouldn't use distilled water. There are minerals in drinking water that are essential for humans and animals. It's an over-abundance of minerals that may cause a staining problem. (though food is a more common culprit)

Bottled water did it for Lucky. Good luck with Barney.

I posted this just a bit ago and started Tim on distilled water. I think it seems to have helped but he's been such a dirty mess lately that this seems to have been put on the back burner. I will stick with it for a bit more, it there isn't much more improvement I might switch back to regular water.

I did the same, Jenny, and haven't noticed a big improvement so am going back to tap water. The strange thing with Tyler's staining is that he never had it before a couple of months ago. We don't have town water, so for 8 years he's been drinking the same well water. Why the staining now is a mystery to me.

Thx for all the feedback

I think we will just leave him on tap water as we tried the bottled water and it did not make much difference. The Angel eyes natural seems to really help with his eye weeping though.

cheers
