Question How much kibble??

I know this must have been asked before, but please humor me..for those of you who feed your dog kibble, just how much do you give per day??
I feed Duncan Merrick kibble and he gets about a cup a day with treats and some doggie cookies throughout the day.

I give Milo about 3/4 cup morning and evening (about 6 p.m.). In addition to that he gets a tiny bit of table food and a few treats (Mother Hubbard little bits). I can't say how much of it he actually eats though since the other two often wind up taking some of his food. I'm trying to cut back on theirs since one is very overweight and the other slightly (but doing much better).

Hi Dot,

Are you asking because you feel he is still very hungry even after you give him what you think is a good amount? I remember you posted about this awhile back..

If he is not to skinny (ribs showing big time) then he is fine! Maybe ask your vet what they think of his current look?

I mean, if I kept on offering beamer food, he would porbably eat all day! and just lie and around not moving.. lol..

Biscuit gets a half cup of kibble in the AM and again in the PM. Then he gets a couple of Paul Newman treats mid-day.. He never begs or asks for more. It seems just right.

yes, don't go by what the bag says for feeding. i should give my dog a cup and a half per instsructions on food bag but he only eats 1/2 maybe a day. he gets a few treats throughout the day just because, it's not enough to stuff him so that he doesn't eat. some days he won't eat a thing, i asked the vet about this and she said start with a small amount and work up to more. like us, sometimes dogs just aren't in the mood to eat. my dog is 9lbs. each dog is different. if you can feel his ribs, he's fine, but i agree, take him to the vet and get his opinion. they are the best judge. i've noticed with everything, the recommended dose for my dog is double what i think he should have so i just cut back.

The amount you feed is also very dependant on the type of food. The crappier foods you will need to feed more because they don't provide as much nutritional value as the premium brands. When Bogart was on kibble (half Evo half Innova) he was getting fed 3/4 cup a day. Bogart and Brando are the same as Beamer. If there's food out, they'll eat and eat and eat. As long as I can slightly feel their ribs when gently pressing, I know they are fine.

I have to say though, it sounds like a lot of food to me when you factor in the treats and cookies. HOw many treats and cookies are we talking about?

My guys get maybe 1 or 2 treats a day and that's it. Once in the morning when I leave I put a treat each per Kong. Then another treat when I come home. That's about it. Of course there the odd time they'll get more such as for training etc. But on a normal day, 2 max.

Hi guys!!
Duncan always seems hungry. He gets about a total of 1 & 1/2 cup of kibble a day give or take and snacks during the day,but he is very active so I guess he burns it quickly!!
He looks BIG,but it's all that hair,b/c when he's wet he looks like a little chichuchua.,LOL!!
He's due at the vets in early March,so we'll see what the vet says.
Thanks for the input everyone!!
Dot
