Spring is here

Just a heads up knowing spring is just around the corner. Please be aware that in the damp weather of spring mushrooms can thrive and can hide in our lawns . For the average person it is best to treat all types of mushrooms as potentially poisonous . Remove any mushrooms you see because dogs will eat them sometimes with serious and or fatal consequences. They can cause bad liver damage and even the edible ones if you know for sure which ones they are, can cause an allergic reaction in some dogs. If your dog does ingest some and shows signs of being ill get to a vet immediately. Just a little reminder of one of the many toxic substances to our dear but unknowing dogs.

Thanks for this post Dave. Hard to think of spring when we still have a foot of snow in our backyard. But I had never heard of the mushroom danger so it is a good heads up-- maybe post it again in april or may when we Nor-Easters (pun intended) really feel like spring may indeed be coming.

Snow in the backyard? I'm jealous. It was 80 out today and humid. Ugh...summer starts here in March, it seems like. I didn't know that about the mushrooms though...thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the tip! We sometimes get shrooms springing up in March here. I always worried about the kids messing with them -- yuck.

I don't get shrooms until summer, but thanks for the reminder. I only get them on my front lawn under my tree, and the dogs aren't allowed out front alone.
