Question Do females mark that have been spayed?

The other day, I took Cee Cee to the Vet and while waiting at the reception area she was sniffing the rug beneath us! All of a sudden she decided to scoot and walk and pee at the same time! Was she marking? She's never done this before, and she's been spayed when she was 6 months old. Cee Cee is now 22 months old, how should I have handled this situation?

Please advise?

Thank you for your help, I was so embarrassed!!

Isabelle my maltese was spayed at 6 months and till this day, she marks almost like a boy dog lifting her leg (straight out rather than up). She doesn't mark in the house but will mark outdoors right over all the other dogs at the park. Dora was spayed also at 6 months and doesn't mark... go figure!

Shelby marks when we go for walks. My female lab/husky used to mark also, more than my male German Shep. Never in the house, just on our walks.

McKenna marks. She has never, ever done so in our house but she definitely marks while on walks and will attempt to mark at other people's homes if I don't keep a close eye on her and let her know that it is unaccpetable. She gives up after the first reprimand though but I still watch her like a hawk. Her half sister has never been a marker.

Dont worry, I am sure that what CeeCee did at the vets has been done many times before~!! On occasion my guys will pee on the floor at the vets out of nervousness. I will say that my oldest girl marks over her sister and brothers spots every day. But only the ones outside. If someone has an accident inside, she has never marked on top of those. She is so methodical about it as if I take Lexi out and she takes a certain route to finally pee, when I take out Lily, she follows her sisters exact footsteps to find the pee, and then goes on top of it. She is like a bloodhound!!! I would only be real concerned if she was doing it in your house or someones house that you visit.

Has not done this in the house yet!!

She hasn't done this in the home or any one else's home, thank God! So, maybe there was some pee on the rug and that is the reason. Hopefully it won't happen again! Thank you to all that answered my question.

I am actually surprised that your vet had a carpet at all in the office. My vets office is all tile floor and they have a bucket and mop ready for anything
It sounds to me like there was probably more than one dog smell on that rug, if you know what I mean, and I think she will be fine!!

I think dogs will intrinsically put their scent over each others. My girl won't do this unless it is HER turf, if another dog pees/poops here, she'll make sure to pee over it. Although, she never, ever does this in public. Hell, she won't even go in public unless we are travelling..she'd rather hold it and squirm than pee in a public place, especially one frequented by many dogs, like around a vet or Petsmart, forget it. lol

I think it is more of a territorial behavior, with boys..it is supposedly sexual, but girls, more territorial..or so I've read.

Dogs will be dogs.

I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it is happening indoors.

Kara~ I had forgotten that about Gucci. Seems like little Tori has developed this potty "issue", too. Maybe she and Gucci are related somehow? Remember how Tori, like Gucci, won't pee and poo in the same place either? Hmmmm.... I wonder what it is w/these girls?
