help, my dogs a mess

my dog is a mess! we are down in florida, everytime we come down here which is about 10 days a month, my dogs face goes from looking good back home where it's VERY cold to coming down here and looking awful. his eyes water 10x as much, the goop is 10x worse, the staining is 10x worse, he just looks like no one has taken care of his face for a long time. i don't walk him that often dong here cuz its too hot and he has his wintercoat so our walks are long in the morning and short in the event. i think it's smelling everlything and maybe his allergies kick up again causing the mess. i have been trying to keep his face and eyes clean, don't know if it's the drastic change in climate. anyone experience the same thing?i'd love tips on keeping him clean.

He's so cute. I think the water we have here causes staining, esp around central fl where there is a higher sulpher content, try giving him distilled water and see if that helps. Where in fl are you?

I had this happen when we took Gucci to Michigan, her tears and staining came back with a vengeance!

I *thought* it was from the water there, but I'm not certain...as she did drink atleast half bottled water? Anyhow, it cleared up when we got home. I guess you could try some type of allergy med? Or talk to the vet about it if that is what you suspect. Otherwise, I'd just increase the routine of eye washes, baby powder, etc.

Maybe its the salty air? It takes a bit to get used to, when I first moved to the beach.

could be. i'll just have to try to keep him clean until we get home, we have an appointment with the groomer a few days after we return, so she will clean him up!

If you are purifying the water in Fl yourself, I would try bottled distilled water. That is the oNLY water that my guys get, and it has helped considerable. FL might just have some mineral in it that your purifyer does not get out.

Maybe allergies or the stress of the new location or combination of both...I would talk with your vet. and see what he has to say. The the watering eyes shoulds like allergies, maybe there is something you could try for give him for allergies.

Wondering if there is any tie to flying. The ears/eye connection?

I wish I was in Florida! )

Just guessing that your Little Buddy's eyes may be reacting to the salt and sand...also, things are blossoming down here now. Lots of allergens floating around.

We are in south-central Florida. Cazzie's eyes were awful for a while after we came south. I give him only bottled water as there is alot of phosphate in the water wells here. It depends on where you are. Anyway, I changed Cazzie's food and began giving him yogurt and his eyes are much much better.
Dogs have allergies the way we do.

Kara I always thought that we in Michigan had the best water! All those beautiful lakes!

does he have any other symptoms like scratching more or chewing at his feet? If it's nothing new he is eating or drinking I would have to think it's in his enviorment that's new be it allerigies to the area or something in the house???? Hope it all works out soon.
